Scale of my New Furniture is Too Big!!
Comments (25)saprek, I love it now! Yes, There's a disconnect between the style of the coffee table and the other furrnishings though, as others have mentioned. An iron and glass table would be more "invisible" and would let your rug shine through. Something transparent would be much better there. Does that white chest your using now come off its base? Maybe you could use it elsewhere as a storage piece at the foot of a bed or a toy chest. As for fabric, I was at Calico Corner and they have lots of sort of contemporary fabrics in the colors of your rug. I think they're expensive but if you need only a few yards you'd be okay. I think for curtains I would look at something light, like cream, with banding made of one of the colors in the rug that you really want to pull out. I'm in love with grey and amber/gold right now. I don't like the dark colored curtain there and I don't know if you should go with pattern. It will really lock you in too. If you keep it simple and bright you can switch things up when you're bored. For basic curtains, You can buy cream ready-mades and band it yourself then get extra banding fabric to use for pillows too. The curtain you have up right now is too dark, IMO and closes the room in. If you want light blocking, what about a natural bamboo type shade under curtains? I've seen nice cheap ones at the mass marketers. You can get them lined to really darken the room. But I don't see doing a really "patterned" fabric. I'd say keep the pattern in the throw pillows, a nice plush chenille throw with a little shine, a big shiny platter on the glass coffee table -- what I'm thinking is right now the whole texture looks very matte. It could use some gleam and also shiny things bounce light around and make a space much more interesting and bigger feeling. It's really looking nice. And I think you're brave to buy HDC chairs without trying them out. Glad they're comfy. I actually need two new chairs for my family room....See MoreToo much furniture! Comments (9)Holy moly, so many great ideas and feedback here. Thank you all so much! And boo - I spent a lot of time trying to decide on window coverings for those weird skinny windows, LOL. As least they're cheap JC Penney shades and won't hurt too badly when I replace them. I like the dark wood trim and didn't want to cover it up, so that's why I chose those and not curtains. But I heard everyone loud and clear. ;) Storage definitely is an issue with this house - there's exactly none. All the storage space was sacrificed for a big open feel, and even the closets are postage-stamp size. Thus the big old coffee table thing (storage!) and the entertainment center (storage!) and the end table (you guessed it, STORAGE!). I love the Besta idea, though! Didn't even know something that cool existed. I am worried that placing the main seating against the half-wall will put the seated person too far from the TV; I do a lot of gaming so I tend to sit closer for full immersion. I was considering moving the seating way closer to the TV, which would create a big space by the half wall, and then putting a narrow table or something back there, i don't know. I'm so terrible at this stuff, that's why I'm so glad Houzz is a thing! A sectional, huh? How does one find a sectional that doesn't scream 80's media room? Off to google I go... :)...See MoreNeed advice on replacing my furniture/redecorating living/dining room!
Comments (15)Hey guys! so I wasnt intentionally not replying...my phone got stolen from a department store (I accedentally set it down, lol!) So I got a new phone and had forgotten my login info (I was automatically logged in) I have still been searching for inspiration. I shouldnt be, but I am still so embarrassed of my house. A lot of it is because due to indecisiveness I have not replaced the furniture I cant stand. I feel like the things I pin on pinterest or save to the ideabooks still just dont fit my living room. I feel like because of the rectangleness of the room the dining room and living room almost have to match/coordinate. It also has to match the floors and the taupe wall color since those arent going anywhere anytime soon. In the ideal world I like shiny dark furniture, especially a dining table but in my head those are all diffrent dining rooms, or open dining rooms that match the kitchen. When you walk in its BAM living and dining room. So I feel like it's just making due with the space. I'm just not really a big fan of my house layout in general, but I am embarrassed to have people over.. My husband absolutely does not want to spend a lot of money on it. We were in a place to, but when we could I couldnt make up my mind. I found this on an Instagram bloggers. Her house really resembles ours, the couch against the window wall, the open living and dining room. I like how her coffee table and dining table match each other, it looks very coordinated. And I also like the black coffee table top with the black on her TV (in the same place as ours). But she posts links to her furniture and I def cant afford that or I'd just be copying lol! I wish I could just copy someone by the book but these bloggers all have a diffrent budget than I do! Hers does have a bit of a farmhouse vibe, but I like it because it is modern. I also like the dining table because it is not cloth chairs and with kids that doesnt always end the best! The style though farmhouse is very popular right now and modernized, from what I can tell. I like walking into target and seeing the target style. I know its modern and popular. I just want to make sure the dining room matches the living room. But I'm in a play or safe kind of vibe. Rooms to go and ashley is more in our budget, cheaper furniture sets and financing options. I like the ones at world market, wayfair etc. but they can be pricey and no financing.. This is that bloggers page:...See MoreHow to arrange living room furniture in open living room?
Comments (26)Marie13100, I mentioned in the beginning we are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and we needed to move the dining table into our living room temporarily and cover everything from the dust. Lynn G, you’re right. Having to look at the wall would be a bit depressing. The most recent floor plan I posted that had the sectional along the window and long wall would be perfect because we can view directly outside the patio door which is in the dining room....See MoreRelated Professionals
