Comments (13)Thanks for all the comments. My wife just cannot get over the modern look of Ikea. We've decided to go a different route entirely. While visiting a friend, she noticed their home office was a converted dining room as well. Similar to ours - hard wood floors, chair rail, crown molding. This person had two beautiful antique barrister bookcases, a small leather couch, a tastefully done large desk, and a oriental rug. It was nicely pulled together. So we are dropping the Ikea route and considering a partners desk with two sets of barrister bookshelves. Perhaps something like this: To answer the other questions: - this is just a home office for the family - the ideal space should accommodate, a PC, laptop and printer (and shredder) One option if the antique desks are too expensive: we have a custom Amish furniture maker local. He said he would make whatever we want. I'm curious to hear how much he would charge. Even the Ikea stuff added up to $2,000 - $3,000. Comments (5)thanks to all for your suggestions! I'll probably do 2 pillows, with just the front the espada cider, and a solid on the back. Don't know yet if I'll have them made (with the corded edges) or if I'll do simple pillow covers, I've got the pillow forms already) I did think of another possiblity..a photo board. I've got one from our old house, that I'll have to redo in new colors. I think I've finally chosen the paint colors, the 2 most left colors on this photo......See MoreWe could really use your help with our home office
Comments (30)An update for y’all: So, I wasn’t quite ready to pull the trigger on painting the entire room blue, but I did go ahead and have custom bookshelves built and installed, in the same shade of blue. I figured I could paint the rest of the room afterwards, if I wanted to. Here’s that wall, just finished — I’m elated. The shelves are fully adjustable, so I can remove one if I want to hang a piece of artwork there. I purposely did not want any drawers or cabinets, just shelves....See MoreLooking for Office Inspiration Ideas
Comments (7)@Maureen Moreno, I believe you misunderstood Patricia. IMO, which is what she was saying, means "in my opinion". She's asking for more information on what your work requires in the way of equipment, etc. Do you work with a laptop only or do you use a monitor, keyboard, hard drive, etc. Does your work require a landline phone or do you not use a phone in your job? Do you need a lot of desk space for large amounts of paperwork in front of you? Do you need storage for papers, etc. in the desk? Will you be meeting with other people in your office? Are you comfortable in a regular chair or do you need an office chair on wheels? Do you need close access to other types of materials that won't fit on a desk? Answering those questions will help you get suggestions as to the best type of furniture for the space....See Moremikeanddeedp
