Have you actually measured the space needed for bed & 2 nightstands & compared that to closet width? Have you thought about how you would plug in the lamps that should be on each of the nightstands inside that space? Have you thought about the challenges of getting in / out of bed with the head of bed inside a niche as the closet would be? Have you thought about trying to make the bed / change the sheets etc in that confined space?

Just thinking about those challenges would discourage me from trying that. And, the one closet you show us looks pretty stuffed making my final question - Have you thought about where all the stuff in the closet you’ll lose will go? How about giving us a floorplan or detailed drawing and furniture sizes & maybe a talented Houzzer will help you with a new furniture arrangement that creates more space in the room. That sounds like why you’re thinking of losing a closet.

Yes, I was thinking if it in too deep it would definitely be annoying.
I was going to renovate and re-wire for more electrical in the space.
The clothes are not mine. I am going to make this room into a guest room. New floors. New look.
I wasn’t able to see many photos of this idea online so I assumed it wasn’t maybe the best idea.

Here is an example. The nightstands and lamp seem a bit redundant in this picture because they are halfway down the side of the bed. But with adequate lighting and bedside storage it could work. I don't know how I would feel sleeping half in and half out with a doorway in the middle, but I don't know if that would bother a lot of people or not.

Just another suggestion, but how about putting the bed in horizontally in the closet? Make it a real book nook. You could even put in a day bed that becomes a king for guests.

Yes palimpsest, what do you think of it? To me it looks like a guest cottage set up - cute and inconvenient but no one minds too much because they’re only spending a night or two in the set up. 😊 It also reminds me of the bedroom set up my DH & I had many moons ago. I’d actually forgotten about it but it must be why all those questions in my prior post immediately popped into my head - because I lived with a similar set up! My furniture pieces had head of bed against the wall between two very tall units that had drawers, shelves & pull outs like a bread board in middle of each which would act as a temporary nightstand. The 2 units were connected at top by a bridge with lights in it. One of those things that seemed like a great idea at the time. There was a similar set up with the two tall side pieces & light bridge across the top which had a deep headboard in middle that head of bed rested against. This one required a larger room. The one I had took up less space - or allowed the bed to be against the wall. After a few years of cursing everytime we changed sheets, made the bed, tried to set a water glass on the pull out & then knocked it off while clambering out of bed, we moved on to more standard furniture.

You would want to have enough room that you could change the sheets and have bedding that wasn't stuffed down into the crevice.

For a 54" full bed, you would want at least 60", maybe 66" clear. (3-6" on each side)

Maybe it’s better I just remove the wall altogether and expand it all. It will give me a lot more room and I can add a nice tall dresser.

I considered doing something similar with a Murphy bed so I could use the room for something else when we didn't have guests. I think if you go the Murphy bed route it would be great. I found that I only had room for a full though. If you are planning on leaving the bed there full time... I'd want to see the full room as there might be a better solution for arranging furniture.

One think I think I see is a thermostat, and they are not that easy to move. Definitely not DIY.

Our boat has a setup somewhat similar to the picture that Pal posted. There is a wall on both sides, extending maybe 30" from the wall behind my head. Lying on the pillow, the wall comes about to my elbow. I will warn you that this setup is a BEAR when it's time to make the bed. We have to pull the mattress out, then I climb in and put on the sheets, I climb out and we shove it all back together. If you were able to pull the entire bed out, it would work.

On a positive note, I don't mind the confined space.

Having a closet to be considered a legal bedroom for real estate purposes is not a universal thing. Here, there are many narrow houses that have a middle bedroom that lacks a closet. What is required to make a legal bedroom in my area is a window. (So there is a narrow side alley toward the back of the house to squeeze in a window). In any case if the alcove remained, it would be a closet. because a closet does not need to have a door to be considered a closet.

"not a universal thing". Do you have REAL examples because in this century I've not heard of a place. Real Estate listings will use "could be used"..so you see if you buy a wardrobe you COULD use it.... But legal verbiage is window/closet/wide enough for a bed to list it as a bedroom. But in the OPs post there is another closet so the point is moot. The pic works but why bother with the night stands/lamps?? One would use a shelf as a night stand and get swing arm lamps installed in shelves too. Sort of seems like a logical place for a murphy bed and call it a day.

I live where no closet is needed to be listed as a bedroom. 7x7x7ft and two egresses is all that is needed in my connecticut town.
