ideas for artwork over headboard
Comments (38)Just a quick update....the "Fly Home" canvas arrived yesterday - we love it! Had already decided it would not go in the bedroom. (Thanks, again, Perky, for photo help!) It's too big and colorful, etc. So, the Ballard Grand Bouquet plaque will be hung over our bed instead (as soon as it arrives - I love packages!) Instead, we moved a piece of existing artwork and put it in the master bath (where I intended the Ballard plaque to go), hung "Fly Home" in its place, and all is perfect. It looks like I actually knew what I was doing - ha. I was a little worried about the pinks in it, but they're very subtle, and they bring out the pink in some paintings I bought on vacation in Hilton Head (the first purchases I made for this house.) So it all worked out and life is good ......yea!...See MoreLOVE This Headboard; Have You Seen One Similar Anywhere???
Comments (25)Ohhhh, I love every one of them! I spent a lot of time yesterday checking them all out and, sadly, they aren't going to work for me no matter how much I love them. They're either more than I want to spend, too pricey to have shipped here to New Mexico or to Oklahoma, already sold or for pick up only. So, moved on to Plan B: Compromise. I headed back out to other shops in my area this morning and found a compromise headboard for only $30. It's wicker instead of wood. While it's feminine, it doesn't have the beautiful detailing that the above headboards have. I bought it because it's clean and in great shape, the tall height will work really well with Emily's PBT bedding and many pillows . . . and I can spray paint it black for just a few dollars more. I'd found this inspiration pic, which gave me the idea that her many pillows might look best up against a taller, plainer, black headboard. Here's that pic: Here's her PBT(Pottery Barn Teen) comforter and sheet set, although DD now has a black netted bedskirt with hers: And here's my $30 bargain headboard, now waiting to be painted: It's propped up against her new (old) slant front desk, that will also be painted this Summer while she's home here. Oakley: last month she actually bought a dresser, nightstand and mirror at a consignment shop near the university. But she's not been able to find a decent desk or headboard she liked. I'm personally not crazy about the color of them or the minimal storage area of the dresser, but she loves them and it's her life and her room. Pics below: Being that she's inherited my decorating obsession (LOL), she already has a number of lamps and artwork for the walls, which also lean towards Tropical. Her new 32" tall mirror which she'll also be painting black: And her PBT curtains in Pool, will work well in her new place: I'll post After pics, but not until everything has been painted, transported to her new place in Norman and set up . . . which will be in late-July. In the mean time, thank you all for your time, efforts and ideas. I really appreciate it! Lynn...See MoreNeed ideas for cheap headboard
Comments (21)We always have fairly small houses with fairly small master bedrooms. So I always use a hollywood frame with no headboard or footboard to take up precious inches. But, I still wanted a headboard, so ours is made of a piece of plywood, wrapped and stapled with a thrift store blanket for padding, and then I covered it (wrapped it like a present and stapled it on the back facing the wall) with inexpensive faux brown leather from WalMart's fabric department. We've had it for years, and I really like it! It is sandwiched between the wall and the top of the bed, doesn't bonk around, is only 3/4 inch deep, is soft and wipeable, and is nice to lean against unlike say a metal rung-type headboard. --Katy S....See MoreHelp for a DIY headboard
Comments (9)If you have a way to cut the wood to the perfect shape, you can cut a piece of luan or other thin plywood to fit within the shape of the headboard frame. Lay the unupholstered wood on the head board, drill 4 to 6 holes completely through the wood and the headboard - maybe one a few inches in from each corner and couple in the middle. Separate the two pieces (insert and headboard) Buy bolts with washer and nuts before you drill the holes, so you will know what size hole to drill. BEFORE you upholster the insert, put the bolts through the holes, slip the washers on the back and put the nuts on just enough to hold the bolts in place. Upholster the insert. You will be upholstering over the heads of the bolts. Attach a thin sheet of foam to the insert just to the edges. Do not wrap to the back. I use spray glue to hold mine in place. Then cover the insert with a thin piece of batting, wrapping the batting to the back. Staple in place on the back side. You will have to ease corners and curves, but you can find plenty of information online on how to do that. Cover the insert with the desired fabric, also pulling it to the back and stapling. Now, remove the nuts from the bolts. Place the insert on the headboard with the bolts through the holes you previously drilled. From the back of the headboard, put the nuts on the bolts and tighten. You may have to put a little pressure on the bolt head from the front of the insert, just to keep it from moving. Tighten the nut on the bolt firmly enough to pull the insert into the frame and to hold it there. This is a sketchy overview. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. I made this headboard using the above technique. The only difference is my head board had 2 inserts. (P.S. This was a picture I sent to the nieces and nephews seeing if they wanted the PB Everyday suede bedding before I gave it to Goodwill. It isn't the best picture of the headboard, but it is all I have.) This technique does not address the nailhead trim. I have never been able to get nailhead trim to look perfect enough to suit me....See Morejakabedy
