Design Dilemma - Paint Color/Scheme Options for Back Entryway

The back entrance of my house includes a small bathroom (sliding pocket door), door to an office, and a sliding door to the porch. It is a high traffic area -- especially since we have a dog and is how we let him in/out to go to the bathroom. With that being said, the walls/trim get dirty quickly. I'm not happy with the bottom color (gray) and I've been thinking of changing the dark wood trim in the middle. My thoughts now are to paint the bottom half (currently gray) and the dark wood trim the same color. I also think I should paint the trim around the pocket door (and the pocket door itself) the same color as the dark wood trim and bottom half. Is that too much? If not, should I paint the trim around the sliding back door (currently white, see pic) that same color as well or leave white? Any and all suggestions welcome. And if you have a similar space and/or pic, I'd love to see that too!

It’s a busy little area so I’d aim to make it feel less broken up/larger. If your kitchen is a dark blue/grey, suggest using the same undertone but in a mid range shade - light enough to brighten, but dark enough to hide scuffs.

I’d paint the trim, baseboards and back door the same color.

To avoid wear and tear on the floor, but also to make hallway fun, consider a vinyl runner.

It looks like with your floor you could use a color that leans more brown and away from gray. Nothing exists in isolation. What colors are you using in the rest of the house? You could remove the trim altogether and paint the whole wall the same color, but if you want a dark color to hide dirt that would be oppressive. If you replace the wall trim, based on the door trim I would continue to use something plain and flat. You can go higher or lower with it - 1/3 - 2/3rds. Why aren't there any baseboards?

Ask my BF why there are no baseboards yet, haha. We have a lot of unfinished projects. It's overwhelming. The kitchen is white with dark blue/gray cabinets. The living room is a subtle light greenish/gray. The front entryway leading upstairs is gray.

I don't want to remove the trim because I don't want to paint the whole wall the same color. I'd like to leave the white at the top to keep it bright. Plus that is just more work, haha.

Nice house. Great location. Existing colors suit the house. Would not paint it white. IF and when it actually needs painting, you might consider two shades of green to have the house meld well with its surroundings. If you're planting veggies, you might want to cut the trees from within your front planting area so its roots do not compete for nutrients. If not wanting someone knocking at the door being able to see in is the reason for considering frosted windows on the door, consider tinted film placed on the glass before investing in frosted glass. For the large window by the door -- for all windows -- invest in mini blinds you can hang within the window frame and, as needed, the slats can be tilted so anyone looking in sees ceiling and those inside can still see out.

If the goal is to upgrade the curb appeal, I would look to landscaping because your house colours are mostly working as is. That said, you're showing the Gentek samples which I'm assuming are for the soffit. The soffit doesn't actually show so I'm not sure why you're starting there. They help bounce light into your windows, so going with the lightest colour that goes with your lightest bricks (NOT white) would be a direction for the soffits. The door and siding are an entirely different matter. The brown that you have now on the siding goes perfectly with the darkest brown bricks. Just refresh it. The thing that looks out of place is the overly white vinyl windows and door. I'm guessing the windows can not be painted so that leaves the door . (If the windows could be painted, a beige colour that tied back into the brick would be the idea. ) The front door could/should be a different colour than the siding. The natural wood tone suggested by Freedomplace1 would work with your brick if you changed the door, but probably not as a paint colour. What were you thinking for the door?

Thanks for the Cottage Red suggestion Houssaon. I might want to go a bit more bright/true red, but that is a really good muted option. As far as Edgecomb Gray trim, the windows, soffit, eaves and railings are stark white, so I was leaning towards a fairly white trim to blend better.

I suppose you could paint however, that will not solve the issue of color in your space. You don't even have any art in the space with color. You might not need to paint if you have art and texture in your rooms. I try to incorporate these basic earth items into every room either with furnishings, art, accessories, wallcovering & rugs: Stone or Marble Metal Natural Fibers Wood Ceramic Glass Leather Floral (Live or Faux) They ground the room and make it more interesting to view. I would do this first before I considered undertaking a paint job.
