Do you cut and separate your tubers now, or wait til spring?
Comments (5)1. It is very difficult to find eyes on them right now. - True. I ask the question - Where would I be if I were an eye? Usually if you get enough of what you call a 'hump' - you will end up with an eye. 2. "...in many cases, 2 or 3 tubers are connected to the same hump." - I will often just keep those two tubers together. It's better than keeping everything together. 3. "There are some tubers that dont seem to be connected to a hump at all..." Yes. the most frustrating part of a healthy tuber clump is that it is a big mess. The best thing is to start with the ones that are obvious. Then, it may reveal the ones that are less obvious. There are some tubers that are not on a 'hump' and they just might not get an eye. Last year, I left some clumps all together, and other clumps I divided and wrapped tubers individually in saran wrap. The saran wrapped tubers were much healthier in the spring. I agree that it is usefull to watch the videos; but I'll be honest - the videos sometimes annoy me because they make it look SO EASY. It's not. :)...See Moreshould i buy now? Or wait til new year?
Comments (13)Prices in some areas are at or near what they were pre-bubble. I believe that general rules of thumb that were in place before housing rabies took hold of this country are still good measures. One, if you stay in the house at least 5-7 yrs it may make more sense to buy, depending on the local market. If you're moving around a lot, rent. Not only could we still be in a falling market, but moving and selling before that rarely makes sense. I believe most areas still have a ways to come down in price, the exception possibly being areas that never saw the wild price inflation. But even those areas could lose value, they just have less distance to go to make up for it when housing "recovers." I would not buy in an inflated area. Most of those prices are still WAY out of whack w/reality and w/incomes. They may come down slowly and painfully, or it may be fast, but they have to come down because people are unable to afford them and many (responsible) lenders have tightened up standards. Any lenders who'd still approve a loan for too much house is probably clearly a crook, and to be avoided. Second: Old rule of thumb on how much house you could afford was, never finance anything more than two or three times your annual income, and only about a quarter (to a third at most) of your income per month for a mortgage pmt or rent. Many variables including your down payment, debt you still owe other creditors, years til retirement, etc. But never let anyone tell you that buying some overpriced house that requires a toxic loan to get into, is ok just because someone will lend it to you. And never let anyone tell you housing only goes up. That was the industry's justification for telling buyers that a house is an investment instead of just a place to live. You have to live in a house a long time and sell in a favorable market for it to have been an investment and even then many people 'forget' all the money they paid out as a homeowner that they won't get back like maintenance, HOA dues, and so on....See MoreAnother Dress Challenge - MOB and MOG
Comments (115)OK.. so we gathered this morning with champagne, wine and spanx-- and tried on a total of 14 dresses all lovingly hand-picked for her. It started out with a bang with the number one pick being the first she tried on. That always makes it easier when the first one fits, right? There were only a few complete misses.. and quite a few wins. Whew! I admit that I had fears of nothing working. The super surprise is the number one pick broke all the rules. It was much shorter than she wanted (in the photo), a shape she was certain she couldn't wear (sheath) and it is a blush pink.. but it was perfect. She was smitten as soon as she saw it... Best of all, it fit her perfectly. No need for adjustments. Next favorite was this one though I need to order a size larger (or she needs to have a rib removed). It is proving tricky to find the right size.. but this also looked absolutely beautiful on her-- better and dressier than in the photo. This also fit her beautifully but the lace on the arms was scratchy. I think we are all in agreement that THIS is the color she needs for the fall wedding. We just need to find it in another dress. And while this one looked stunning (and very slimming) on her-- it's been 100% nixed because it looks like something my mother wore to one of my sister's weddings. It's a shame because it was very comfortable and really looked great on her.. but we also agreed that it's too much bling for a MOG. The hunt is now focused on that dark fuschia color. It really brought her face alive and looks stunning with the wedding colors. There are two other dresses that look great and would be perfectly fine-- but they are a tad "expected" for MOG. We're keeping one of those as a fallback. Thank you all for all of your time and your many suggestions! Oly, I know I balked at the florals but we all agree that it's perfect for the spring wedding....See MoreQuick vote...my MOB dress/beach wedding
Comments (47)For those following, yes I would prefer something flowing. Chiffon. So far I have been through so many trials of things that are not my style or color. I hate the large florals, as they remind me of yesteryear's chintz upholstery. But....I tried them anyway. My DD’s choice will probably be be a satin slip style dress for the ceremony. It will be made specifically for her. Not exactly beachy. Her reception dress might be a gold metallic cocktail mini dress. She sent me a photo, not sure if she bought it. I plan to keep looking. I somehow feel ordering dresses keeps the energy flowing and somehow the right one will come my way. In the mean time, we are heading to fall, so my window is shrinking....See Morenekotish
