Veggie Tales Feburary 2023
Comments (51)Yesterday was a picture perfect day in this neck of the woods...er...city. My late afternoon walk revealed that it was remarkably calm. So I jumped into action, broke out my sprayer and dormant oil, and sprayed my peach trees. Today's going to be nearly as 'warm' but the winds return. I just love it when all the stars align, I have the time to spray, AND the weather cooperates. I checked on my garlic and nearly all the varieties are showing sprouts of an inch or so above the mulch....See MoreVeggie Tales >>> June 2023
Comments (84)The heat is now officially turned on here, humidity too + smoke. Looks like after today there's going to be a long stretch of 90's with spotty rain chances. Some more garden pics below from this morning...sure glad we got a ton tomatoes setting before this heat hits... One of my cheatin' tomato plants, have already picked 8 off of this one... One of the later tomato plants, most are loaded down, just a wild carrot/bloom mixed in... Some typical jalapeno peppers for the next batch of chili..... Some yellow summer squash......See MoreVeggie Tales >>> Sept 2023
Comments (40)In the past our 1st frost was around mid-Oct but more recently it tends to be around Halloween. Been busy cleaning up the summer garden, that heavy rain made it much easier to pull up the weeds and spent melon vines & tomato plants. So far the fall crops look very good and they liked that rain and the low 70's this week. Still have the cabbages caged-in due to one rabbit that is still hanging around, it doesn't have a mate as far as I can tell. The pear trees are still loaded even though we picked up about 100 off the ground which the TS winds knocked down, many of these pears are huge at 2 lbs. The persimmons are showing a hint of orange now....See MoreVeggie Tales >>> November 2023
Comments (15)Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We had roasted carrots and parsnips from the garden with our feast. Recently pickled beets were supposed to be part of it, too, but they were forgotten and remained in the refrigerator. Oh, well, they will be a great new addition to the leftovers tomorrow. We have had a warmer than normal autumn and the garden is better tended than some years. Most is covered by a layer of shredded leaves. Garlic is planted, although a few weeks latter than I'd prefer. I was gone a lot in October and was sick when I got home and didn't do much for awhile. I'm sure the garlic will be okay, maybe just a bit smaller. Some carrots, parsnips, and beets are still in the ground. They should be okay for awhile. Might be a weird cabbage or kohlrabi if I looked around some. Potatoes are stored, herbs and garlic are being used, and a couple small cabbages are refrigerated. There are veggies in the freezer, too. Time to relax and enjoy the last days of autumn....See MoreRelated Professionals
