Help with plan for home office (pics)
Comments (17)DH and I both work from home about 25% of the time so we know intimately the challenges of home offices. :) Let me ask - the guest room behind the pocket door - do you ever use it as such, or is it just staged that way? If you don't use it as such, I would turn that space into the office proper, and use the landing area for a sitting room. Here are your wishes, and what I would do: -- a desk to work at, with a comfortable desk chair You can combine this and the third item with a desk that incorporates a filing cabinet drawer like . Alternately, you can repurpose a large filing cabinet as a printer stand and/or pictures, like . -- space for a printer As mentioned above - can go on either a desk or filing cabinet. I would not suggest the desk. They do take a good chunk of space, and most printers create a lot of side-to-side sway as they print (especially if you do a lot of color/art printing, which I do) which can make it hard to use the desk for other things at the same time. -- storage for a large amount of household papers -- financial, medical, etc. See previous for integrated or separate file cabinet. -- storage for office supplies (paper, pens, stapler, tape, etc) Easily held in desk drawer(s), or a repurposed portion of a file cabinet. -- a comfy chair for reading, or for someone else to sit in while I am at the desk If you can use the guest room for this, easy-peasy. If not, I would place a comfortable chair under the window and use it as such. I would not want my computer monitor directly in front of a window. Aesthetically, I hate blocking windows. Functionally, it will be VERY hard on your eyes to read a monitor with bright light and/or distraction immediately behind you. -- display for pictures of family and friends This can go anywhere, on the wall if nothing else....See MoreWe could really use your help with our home office
Comments (30)An update for y’all: So, I wasn’t quite ready to pull the trigger on painting the entire room blue, but I did go ahead and have custom bookshelves built and installed, in the same shade of blue. I figured I could paint the rest of the room afterwards, if I wanted to. Here’s that wall, just finished — I’m elated. The shelves are fully adjustable, so I can remove one if I want to hang a piece of artwork there. I purposely did not want any drawers or cabinets, just shelves....See MoreHelp with converting dining room to office space
Comments (16)I have an open concept living area so my office space is open to the more formal living area. I recently remodeled and what I did was incorporate as much storage as possible so that things could be hidden away. My printer is installed inside a lower cabinet that rolls out so that it is hidden. This also stores paper. There is an outlet in this cabinet to plug in the printer. I don't need huge amounts of file storage so at this point almost everything is digital but I have one smallish file cabinet to hold some hanging files. My desk counter area runs the width of the wall and also does a turner at the corner. This is where I have my computer. I have upper cabinets which have sliding decorative doors and these hold a multitude of sins - they also complement the design choices of my living room in terms of color and style as they are Art Decoish in style. I have a little covered compartment by my computer which holds my external hard drives which I use for backup and additional storage of digital files. My designer had suggested using a fabric on the wood between the counter/desk and the upper cabinets which would be a decorative way of pinning stuff. My office needs really aren't into pinning paper as I try to get rid of as much paper as possible but this would be an attractive option for people who do pin stuff. I purchased a very stylish (and comfortable) office chair. It is upholstered non-traditionally in teal blue faux ostrich :-). Again this complements design elements from the living room. For me the key was balancing functionality and aesthetics and maximizing hidden storage....See MoreHelp - Work/home office ongoing disaster - floating shelves
Comments (24)I love the Bright Green Office; looks very logical. I love your room. If you want some art in the room, get it first and let it drive your color scheme. Get rid of everything in the room, except what you need to work in the room, and organize it into boxes, bins, what ever so you can think straight about what goes where when. Then paint the room a nice soothing color you like...pick a color then go two tints lighter! And paint! Then decide where the desk will go and set up the computer. Find a concealer for wires and plugs online or at the container store. Add shelves and designated closed storage, even if it is baskets or fabric bins with clear large name tag designation for each bin.....get a perch for the kitty, and your are pretty done......anyway that is just my suggestion, but it might help?...See Moremaugebruja
