Paint Design Dilemma

exterior paint help!!!

This was our house when we bought it… unfortunately the siding started failing and we had to have it replaced. We are now getting the house painted, and wanting something not as dark as the original color. We had a paint consultation done with Sherwin Williams and I am worried the colors the suggested are too light. The brick in the third picture is way more red/orange than it really is. They suggested balanced beige or loggia, as well as some jt bees. What are your thoughts?!? Would love renderings!

Since you love renderings, most paint makers have an online visualizer...you can upload photos of your home and color it the actual paint colors you are considering.

You have white vinyl windows so I would paint the trim white. The shutters are only on a couple windows so I would remove them. Doors could be anything at that point. I would prefer natural wood.

brick is fine. what I'd do is change out the siding on that 2nd story and remove the shutters lousy photo shop, but kind of gives you an idea. you could do a type of batten siding up top, or a vertical siding, and consider painting it a darker color, but in a warmer tone that still works w/the brick and the roof color here's a vertical siding (look at James Hardie siding) w/dark trimmed windows, no shutters, cedar posts, dark garage door, updated lighting another one w/vertical siding, no shutters, dark garage doors...landscape of course Here are some color combos to consider w/the yellow/orange brick. bronze, copper, warm wood tones, bronze metallic lights, copper rain gutters, all look nice If you want to stay w/warmer colors. Pair it w/copper accents and front door Another darker color that looks nice w/these copper tones, Urbane Bronze or Iron Ore. Here are a few pics of some updated split levels. this one has the smae brick color and they paired it w/a deep navy. look for blueish charcoals like this one (Cypberspace is similar) Stone Lion is a close beige match Obviously this is more than just paint. thought I'd show it so you can see possiblities. this is a beautiful remodel. Not quite as drastic. new siding/paint. dark door, new front door and no shutters. If you ever decide to consider doing the brick, Romabio is a Lime product that is natural, requires no maintenance and comes in either a limewash in 7 diff shades, or a Mortar coverage that can be tinted any color. Just showing you an example of a house that was done in a heavier lime wash, metal porch overhang and similar brown roof. copper color rain gutters. soft gray garage/shutters.

Thank you so much! This is really close to what I have in mind and such great help. I wasn’t sure a light gray would work well but I think it should look pretty good. A couple questions, would you leave the shutters off and would you do a black garage? I was thinking of maybe painting the wood work white and the garage maybe white too but seeing this has me leaning differently. Is there any other light warm gray colors that you would suggest?

On what I can see of your house, I dont see black on your house. Leave the trim white like it is. I am very sorry, but, I hate the garage door. It looks fake, and isnt attractive.. I would paint the garage door, the same color as the siding, so it all blends together, and the garage doesnt jump out as the first thing a person sees, when they look at the house.

I am in agreement with Rachel Lee about painting the brick. Would actually suggest painting the brick and siding the same color as right now you have a somewhat disjointed fascade. Painting all walls the same color would help unify into a more harmonious composition. Good luck!

Computer simulations are only going to get you so far. Time to get a big board (at least ten square feet) and paint some samples. Prime it and apply two color coats to get the right effect. You can move the board around to all sides of the house to see how the color looks in different light. The two colors recommended are very similar. They are both medium tones. They are lighter than what you have, but not off whites. Only you are going to know if they're the right amount of light/dark for you. You can always move down the chip to a darker version if they do end up looking too light. I'm not usually a fan of painting brick, but you don't have very much of it and it does seem to be creating a problem with finding a solution, so do give it some thought.

^agree that you need to test the colors in person - one grey taupe paint color we were looking at turned purple in the morning from the light and the green bounce from landscaping

I would not paint the Brick. these SW color options would look great with your brick color.

SW Conservative Gray and SW Austere Gray

The brick is nice if your second pic is a good representation. I’m never fond of painting nice brick, but the placement of yours is odd. I think either of the two color choices from Lyn could be nice.

I think Uncertain Gray might compliment your red brick, would look lovely with Mediterranean on the front door.

Or if the goal is something more neutral, I could possibly see Balanced Beige working with your brick; but it would be worth checking out the following as well:
