I’m frequently on the EF Renew site, which I learned about here and now have credits from sending loghtly or unworn EF stuff back. I don’t know what size you need but this is a sampling from this morning:

Tying in stylish raincoats with oddly unobservant people (because I have to insert stories about me everywhere), my sister walked over to my house wearing a stylish lightweight raincoat. Something nice enough that it was out of character. My other sister picks us up in the car and says: "You know .. . that's my raincoat. . ." And my other sister says "I guess that's possible, it was hanging in my closet and . . . well I didn't really recognize it, but nobody else seemed to own it, and I thought maybe it was mine. And you know mom would buy me stuff and I would never really pay attention to it. . . you can have it back if you want it".

And my other sister said " . . .the last time I was at your house (she always came here) was for a wedding shower or baby shower so that's ten or eleven years, and mom's been dead almost thirteen. I've bought new raincoats since then. You obviously have not. Just keep it"

I have three on order and one I am trying in person today. Sizes are all over the place, esp w the different cuts but at least a L/XL. I will do layers but not really bulky layers. I won't buy anything not returnable.

If it were me, I'd definitely want one with a hood for the convenience and practicality. And the funnel neck...I thought the same thing as pal. Brrr.

I like #4 the best. I have this jacket in navy blue. I love it, but it might be too heavy for what you want.

Mtn, the other thing to consider is water-repellancy. Do you want it to be water-proof or water-resistant?

Did you see this article? The temperature is typically below 60 degrees in summer. Wouldn't a rain jacket that offers real protection be more useful than a rain coat you'd wear running into a shop or restaurant during a light rain?

BBSTX, They all have a hood expcet maybe the last one, which I already mentioned I nixed (even though its on its way). Waterproof. I think the ones I ordered are but Ive looked at so many now!

This one is my leading contender because I think it is stylish and yet it is waterproof, had a hood, and they call it a "summer parka," which is what I think I need.

Eileen, yes, the avg daily high should be 55 the week we are there --- but we will have to have layers because it can be much colder, and windy too. If it is waterproof, has a hood, and is long enough, that is enough protection for me.

Too funny ... I have an old HS aquaintance who used to like EVERYTHING on FB within seconds of when it was posted. Not like Jilly who graciously responds to posts with love, support and insight... I mean this woman used to like EVERYTHING. No matter how odd or nonsensical. So .. it became a game with my bff and I! We would post odd things at odd hours just to see if she'd "like" them (she always did .. so the game became less fun).

Which one is Woolrich?

Luckily, the Woolrich one was my least fave. I say luckily because it was the most $. The color was too brownish IRL and it was just blah rather than sleek. I wanted to like it.

The Orvis was blah on me too.

My hands down fave is the Athleta. I love the color and the weight. The nipped waist is a little more flattering than other raincoats. Now I need a raincoat to put over it to protect it.

I may also keep the J Crew. It is unremarkably generic, but it has a very nice hand, fits well, and I love the light blue striped lining. I paid only $94.40 with a code when I ordered it. I have a short black Burberry just like this, but I'd like a tan one too, and this sure is a reasonably priced option.

I really like #1 from the pictures, followed by #5, #4, #2. But at the end of the day you'll probably have to see what they look like on you. This does make me want a fancy raincoat though... mine are all very outdoorsy / functional.

Love the Athleta one for color, but also concerned for the same reason. can you scotchguard it before you leave? I looked for Camp Dry (suggested by Outside, I think) and could not find it locally but did find a Scotchguard extra strength product that I am going to use on my shoes. Not for waterproofing necessarily, but to keep them clean.

I can't tell you how much I relate to the whole, I need to cover it up because it's so nice.

The one with the buttons down the front, reminds me of my old London Fog trench coat....popular in the '80's.

@nicole___ Yes, that style is quintessential raincoat, designed by Burberry for the British Army in the late 1800s and popular ever since. It is a sort of "you can't go wrong" look but pretty unremarkable. I may keep it, but not for Iceland necessarily since it has no hood. I am not sure if I need it though since i have the identical one in black from Burberry.

@Bumblebeez SC Zone 7 I confess to considering buying two. It is a little like my buying pale pink luggage and then needing a sleeve to protect it.

@Kswl I don't like the chemicals, plus I am afraid I'd apply it unevenly and see it. I've already warned the family that i bought a white raincoat, and it's going to be "a thing" on our trip. Please avoiding touching me unless absolutely necessary, and a small bounty will be on offer to anyone who can spot hazards for me. DH will need to carry Lysol wipes to prepare all surface before milady is seated. Half-joking. Half.

In the dictionary under "high maintenance" is white raincoat wearers.

A week from tomorrow!

I saw my doctor yesterday and asked her for a prescription for Paxlovid which I would fill and take with me, along with several Covid tests, of course. She flatly refused, citing many side effects of the drug and said she gets a complete blood panel before she prescribes it to patients who have tested positive for Covid. She also said that along the route of our trip there are many physicians very used to seeing tourists from river cruises with Covid and that they would test and prescribe if we needed it. She said her parents (our friends and our age) went on the same cruise recently and both came back from it with Covid. We are still going, but…. dammit ! 🙁

Mtn, years aho I had a pearl white raincoat, which was really more of a fleece-lined water-repellant hooded jacket from North Face. It held up pretty well in the dirt department except for at the wrist edges. I always had to pre-treat there when I washed it. I could never figure out how it got so dingy there and nowhere else. Around my watchband maybe.

And we may be written up in someone’s trip report as “the standoffish couple from some small town in Georgia or somewhere,” as we plan to keep ourselves to ourselves, as Brits are always saying in their police procedurals 🙂 My SIL and her family were in Italy in May, did not mask on the plane and came down with Covid asap.

Well, FWIW, we have been flying all over, even during COVID. We masked only when required. but we were all first in line to get each and every vax. AFAIK none of us got COVID from our travels. I mention only because now you have some more optimistic data points, too! But I understand your caution.

We waited to get our fourth booster until last week, timing it 15 days before the flight as the maximum effectiveness of each lasts just a few months. So we should be at the peak of protection, as it were.
