I agree. I hate the fussiness of all these 'pieces' on a bed. The only solution I found was to have a bedspread made to order -- and I haven't felt like spending $300-$400 for a king size one!

It is very frustrating, I prefer not to have comforted, dust ruffle etc. I have a bedspread on my bed but it was hard to find. I got mine from a site called Domestications, no longer in business. I like tailored bedspreads, not all the ruffle-y stuff around the edges. But I have yet to find one with a nice pattern that's not silky and quilted and $500. haha

This is why I've had to have all of our bedding custom made. Store bought stuff has gotten skimpier and skimpier as the years go by to where spreads don't fit right at all.

Boscov's carries lightweight spreads. I have not bought one so Im not sure if they are skimpy or not. Also Kohl's carries some very light "quilted" spreads. Maybe Vermont Country store has something. I bought a lightweight spread at Christmas Tree Shop for really cheap and it fits my queen bed nicely. Good luck. Satine

Gazania, do a Houzz search for "bedspreads" instead of spreads. That should get some results for you. You might also be interested in some of the bedspreads at the kMart website. I found several that look very nice. I also found this one at WalMart that just may have to be shipped to me very soon. :-)

If the size of the spread for a full size bed is the standard 96 wide by 110 long, it does not fit to the floor on a bed with these thicker mattresses. If you go to a queen size, the extra width is close, but there is still not enough length to cover the pillows and have the bottom of the spread go close to the floor.

I had that same rant when I got a new, higher bed. I hate the thicker mattresses, and I had to take the bed off the frame to keep the bed from towering over my old nightstands. Fortunately, I am a quilter, so I made my own bedspread to fit my bed.

When we got our new bed, I asked for the low-profile foundation. It's half the height of a regular, so that the bed is at a normal height. I hate falling out of bed in the morning, with the super high beds.

I don't like duvets and duvet covers. The duvets never fit and always shift around. I got a new comforter and a quilt from Freecycle and we love it. It's perfect.

You can still find the old-fashioned cotton "chenille" bedspreads at Vermont Country Store. (Not an ad or endorsement, just know they have some hard-to-find items).

I have the same problem since I got my new taller mattress, I kept my foundation because it was not as tall. I would have needed a ladder to get in bed, as it is now I can't sit on the edge and touch the floor, that is the one thing I don't like.

I have started getting the beautiful quilted coverlets from steinmart they are reversible, well made and I love the colors and patterns. I keep a solid neutral color bedskirt on all the time so not a lot of things to mess with. For some I have matching shams but not all, I have solid color sheets that coordinate with the colors so I can just have my pillows in the pillow cases sitting on top.

I love matelasse and own several bedspreads of it not all of them touch the floor now but it doesn't bother me I leave the bedskirt on even with the bedspreads. I got one of my favorite bedspreads at Tuesday Morning and it does still go to the floor it's a fantastic spread.

Box springs are now "out of style" and all you need is a mattress. So bedding is going through another change. How about those Euro sized pillows....26" X 26"? :0)

katlan. I get the Touch of Class catalog and looked at the site you posted. The 'Grand" sizing they have, 102 wide x 115 long, for a full would be great. It seems that anything I have any interest in either doesn't come in the 'Grand' size or doesn't come in a color I can use. I really, really don't want quilted and don't care much for chenille. I am being too picky maybe.

ravencajun, like you, I cannot reach the floor with my feet when sitting on the bed. This bed is in the guest bedroom. (just 2 bedrooms in the house). Due to dh's cpap use and my need for pillows around me for support, I am using this bed myself except when we have overnight company. As it is now, it is a little difficult for me to get into and out of the bed due to the height. As my weakness progresses, something will have to change. In the meantime, I sure would like to have a nice summer weight, non fussy bedspread that fits the way it should.

vicsgirl, Vermont Country Store has several of the type of spread I want, but not the oversize I need. I even called them to ask about them.

There sure is a vacuum in the bedding department, isn't there? 10-15 years ago I found an ecru matelasse bedspread at Tuesday morning that fits our cal king bed pretty well. Since I wash it in warm water and dry it in the dryer, it has shrunk a little over the years, but I keep it a little shorter on the side that can't be seen and the length (over the pillows) is still fine. It's a little worse for wear at the edges by now so I'm looking for another, with no luck. I don't care for the fringe which so many of them have.

I did recently buy from Orvis a couple of seersucker spreads for another bedspread. They are ok, but like you said, Gazania, they don't go all the way to the floor. I too don't care for a comforter set because we prefer cotton blankets and don't tuck all the way around the bed. Would you consider ebay or etsy and buy a used one?

Last year I found a beautiful bedspread for my king size bed at Kmart. It fits great too. It's more for winter so I need to stop in there to see what they have in a summer weight.

I got mine when Mervyns was going out of business a few years back.Like the op,I had to get a king size to fit my queensize bed,and since my bed is high,it still wasn't wide enough for the drop,but length was fine and does go over the pillows.I make my own dust ruffles,as I don't like the skimpy ones they sell,and they are easy to make.

I don't have pictures on my kindle,or else i'd show you,maybe later today if I remember.

This is of interest to me, what I find is the bedspreads in the links provided look kind of tacky. Not all of them but most of them, IMHO anyway. I for one HATE comforters and I wonder why they ever became so darn popular and when did bed covers shrink or have they just not caught up to the larger mattresses? Sheesh bed cover manufacturers...WAKE UP!!!!! It's not 1970 anymore! smh!

two links work and two do not. Enough to see the bedspread though. I'm pretty sure that the quilt I'm using on my queen bed is a king and is just barely large enough but almost too short for my liking.

I don't think the makers of bedspreas are taking into consideration the depth of the mattressess any more. I have 2 box springs on my bed,and then the mattress as i don't like a low bed.But you're right,the king size on a king bed would be too small,you would need a bed skirt.

Not for a bedspread in the correct size but it could if you can get bigger size than the bed. I did that for the rv and it is like a bedspread, my bed is a queen size and I am using a king size. I really like them and the weight of them is perfect. They have all the colors in the store. That's why I have several colors the price is great and they put them on sale often. I have washed them and they still look brand new.

I wish we had Steinmart stores here :( I'd have to order which isn't a big deal but it's nice to see and feel stuff first.

If you need me to take some close up pictures of mine for you to see I can do that. I have a very colorful one on the bed right now.

ravencajun, what I have on the bed in question now is a queen size throw style ribcord spread. Placed on the bed so that the pillows could be covered (that is what spreads are meant to do) allows the frame at the foot end of the bed to be exposed. Pulling the spread down even with the head of the bed so that the frame is covered at the foot meant that the corners at the foot end of the bed dragged on the floor greatly. I feared tripping over that excess, so I cut those corners off and rounded them to get it off the floor.

Over 10 years, that spread has many pulls in the ribcord and needs replacing. Remember my original post. I don't want bulky, quilted, bed skirts, or shams. Just a nice light weight summer spread that drops at least far enough to cover the rails of the frame and is long enough to cover the pillows and doesn't have to be altered so it doesn't drag on the floor at the foot.

I would make one, but handling large amounts of fabric and working at my sewing machine isn't a doable thing for me anymore.

I know exactly what you are looking for, the only place I see them now is brylane home. We used to do the spread over the pillows that way too. I know that is not an option for many now with the tall mattress. As the mattress trend changes so should the bedding but for some reason they don't.

I did see some thin bedspreads when I searched at BBB but they sure are pricey. Maybe search at bed bath and beyond and see if you don't care about the price but to me $200 is a lot. You could use the coupon which would help some.

Arkansas girl not sure which page you looked at but on this page with all the ones like mine every one I clicked on was available in king you just have to scroll down the page on that item to find the king selection box. I love the print ones especially that turquoise one with the bold floral print on it. I have been wanting that one and might get it t his summer, great summer colors.

I'll check again because I clicked on "king" to narrow the search and only the one came up. I looked at a few others just to see and they were not available in king so I just gave up and figured the search was accurate.

Edit to update: OK so I did the search again and chose king and got only 4 color choices this time and none of them were turquoise. Apparently their search feature is buggy as all get out because there are lots of kings...gah! Maybe I should contact them about the flaw in their search feature.

I have checked out each online site mentioned here and haven't seen anything I would like well enough to order unseen.

I would not use the search feature just go to the various ones you like and click on them each of them has a king option and each one said in stock on the ones I looked at. Those search features at so many sites are terrible.

I found this company with some thin bedspreads at reasonable prices: thin cotton bedspread There are other colors also. This looks closest to what you are searching for. I did an google image search with the word bedspread in quotation marks and found a lot of places selling bedspreads. The quotation marks get rid of all the non-bedspread photos and limit the results to only bedspreads.
