Cute Halloween decorating! No Halloween decorating here, but the Fall decorating is in full swing!

OMG, Zipdee, that is so cute! I LOVE your spider! How do you keep him up on your roof without blowing down?

DD(17 y/o) & I are just now putting up our Halloween decs. I went a bit crazy with them last year, as she was enjoying it all so much. No pics yet, but we're doing the exact same thing that we did last year, so here are those pics.

We only decorate the living room and adjacent dining room and front foyer. No decs outside as we live in the mountains and most decs would blown away. And, we don't get any trick-or-treaters in our small development because our homes are so far apart and there are no street lamps out here . . . anywhere. But here are a couple pics of the foyer:

This last pic is a close-up of one of our very special Halloween books, as it was written by my cousin, Kathryn Galbraith. I think she has somewhere around 17 books published now. Cute story and I love the ilustrations!

That spider is great. I don't do much in the way of seasonal/holiday decorating. For this time of year a display of the mini-pumpkins I grow is about it. I used to do a jack-o-lantern and some other decorations on the porch for Halloween but we don't get any trick-or-treaters out here so I stopped doing that.

That is the coolest spider I've ever seen! In fact, I've never seen anything like it. If I lived in town you'd have given me a great idea. Will it blow away?

Lynn, I never tire of looking at your Halloween stuff. All through the year whenever I see something up your alley, I always think I need to email you the link. lol.

I don't do Halloween since we live in the country. I did only one Fall decor though and I'll take a picture of it later. It's pretty lame, but I like it.

Although I am changing out textiles (linens and things) to Fall/Winter from Spring/Summer.

Thanks Oakley! You know, next year at this time DD will be off at college and we'll be empty-nesters (sob!). I doubt very much if I'll go all out for Halloween then. Personally, my favorite decorations are the few Fall ones I'll put up after Halloween, simple and sweet.

Here's my lame attempt at Fall decorating. lol. I love the ornament tree so I recently decided to keep it out all year because the "brass" goes with the room really well.

I don't do halloween decorations either. Oh we'll have a jack-o-lantern out on Halloween night, but all my decs are just fall stuff and I only do outside. Cornstalks, pumpkins, cabbages, pansies, etc. I bought a Croton plant while in South Carolina - hope it makes it till Thanksgiving (my Christmas decs go up right after Thanksgiving). I'm wanting to add some grapevine too.

I'll try to post - question on that - will post it.

There's a three story building in our town that sits on a corner. They have three of those large blow up spiders dangling from the sides of the building. It's a real show stopper for the kids in town.
I don't know if they will do it this year or not what with the flooding.

I guess it's way too late to mention this to the Halloween decorators, but I saw black, feathered birds at one of the chain dollar stores a few weeks ago. They were very realistic looking. I thought they would look cool & scary if someone bought a bunch of them to display like a flock of Ravens then the bird said Nevermore.

I LOVE Zipdee's spider on the roof! It's a real show-stopper and the webbing adds so much. I really like the fact that it can be deflated after the holiday and stored away in a relatively small box. There seems to be many very large decs available in the past few years. Some pretty amazing ~ and some pretty darn gross~ but I can't help but wonder what kind of space it takes to store them the other 11 months of the year.

Carol, I can imagine how popular those 3 big spiders are. I like fun decslike that rather than the gory ones!

Thanks everyone, we live in the neighborhood that draws kids from all over to TOT and I just love fall. Plus I've always found the creative side of Halloween a blast.

Wow, Lynn .. I love, love your decorations, they are fantastic. The place settings are wonderful and I adore the idea of the witch's work table. The boo bunny book is awesome too, I love children's books and still have a big collection from when my girls were small that I can't part with.

Our spider, the girl's named 'Gigantor' is tethered down to the surrounding wood trim and chimney with a lot of very high tests fishing line. We actually had a storm blow through yesterday and part of this morning and he's held fast, even the webbing held up pretty good. Once it dries out out a bit I have some primping to do to the web on the roof, but over all it made it through the storm really well.

CB .. Thanks so much for thinking of me, we are doing fine. I hope everything is going well with you and your family! We closed up the house for the summer and the girls and I traveled with my DH, we had a ball. Then since school started it's just been nutty busy, it seems like we have something going on every night. I have one in high school now and two in middle. I'm hoping next year when my oldest gets her license it will help with all the running I do right now.

Carol, that house sounds great! We live right on a fairly busy corner in the historic district, our spider has been a traffic stopper here too. *LOL* What I love best about him is his head turns and we faced him so it looks like he's 'prowling' the two streets and neighborhood for a tasty snack to ambush. :)

I'd love to see everyone pics of the fall or Halloween decor! I looked back a couple of pages before I posted to see if there was fall decorating up yet, I'd love to see what you've all done inside and out.

I love fall and bringing touches of it to the exterior and indoors is something I look forward to after our long, hot summers. Have a pumpkin on the courtyard steps, a couple garden flags ... front and back, a few mini pumpkins on the kitchen windowsill, and an autumn swag on top of the kitchen hutch.

Oakley, I use some of those acorns on the small nature-themed artificial Christmas tree in the dining room.

Tina, still a little too warm here for pansies, although they're popping up in garden centers. I'll wait a couple more weeks. Did plant some alyssum and petunias.

Mine are not in full sun Natal so they are doing okay. We are up and down but averaging mid 70's, so they should be okay. I just put them in planters, none in the ground.

Still waiting for our big landscaping project, the landscaper hopes he will be able to do it around the end of the month. I hope so too!!!

Our colors have really changed alot in just the last few days. It's a beautiful fall! Coming back over the mountains the other day was gorgeous.

Zipdee, your daughters must be getting a big kick out of their new "pet". Do you have holiday or Fall decs up inside your home yet? BTW, I really like your idea of the pumpkin in the planter with the spider on top . . . very cute! I also like that it can do double duty, turning into a great Fall dec, minus the spider, after Halloween! (And, thanks for the comps on my decs).

HHireno: I saw some birds like that last year, but waited too long to buy any for a good price. I did find this guy (I call him Ahnold, my body-builder raven) at GW last year in the $1 bin. He's just lightweight, black, cheap plastic, but he was all I could find at the time for a decent price. I sprayed him with adhesive, sprinkled him with black glitter, added glow-in-the-dark eyes and popped him into an old cage I had and glued him down to a branch. I think he turned out pretty darn nice for just about $1.50!

Oh, and speaking of the Dollar Stores, last year I found packages of black cheesecloth there for $1 each. I used them as "drapes" in my dining room window. They're very lightweight and you can hold them up with thumbtacks, if anyone's interested in a Halloween look for next to nothing, price-wise. BTW, they stretch, so a little goes quite a way. I did this entire large window for $4: $3 for the cheesecloth and $1 for a package of cardboard decs, including the jack-o-lantern and moon there on my windows.

Oakley, I love your ornament tree! The pine cone ornaments are so pretty and add a nice, festive touch. Have you been able to get ornament for holidays other than Christmas (and Fall)? You'll need to show us it decorated for Easter sometime.

LOL! He does, doesn't he? I got him and quite a few others in 2 packages at the Dollar Store last year. The quality of them was surprising very good. A great buy for $1/pkg.

*LOL* Love the scary Peeping Tom Pumpkin, Lynn! :) I always shop the Dollar Tree for their Halloween stuff, I bought some things there this year for the porch of the little house. I'll try to take some pics to show you what I did out there and get them posted. I haven't done a lot of decorating inside yet, I'm hoping to get there soon.

I do try to layer fall decorating in with Halloween or vise versa. Like the webbing can come off the mums and pumpkins in the planters and they'll stay around until the weather turns to cold. I'll take down my Halloween flag and put up my fall one also. Some years I lean more towards fall decor, then when it gets toward Halloween I'll dress it up.

Like this year when I did Bill the scarecrow, once we got towards Halloween I pasted fangs on him and he dressed as a very dapper vampire. I'm looking for that picture to show you guys, it was a hoot! You can see my fall flag in the back ground here too.

We never did repaint. It totally miffed me at first when they did their house across the street, honestly I don't even notice it now. I like the color of our house, especially with the stained shakes and the old door put back on, so I'm glad a cooler head prevailed and we didn't re-paint. :)

Good for you for not repainting. Love all your Halloween decorations! The mums on top of Tom's head are a hoot!

Zipdee, I love "Bill the Scarecrow" and how versatile he is . . . and also his red hairdo! I can't wait to see him in his vampire costume. I also wanted to tell you that I love, love, love your beautiful porch and the color of your home. I'm sure that you've posted pics of it sometime in the past, but I don't recall seeing them. Would you show me a few more pics someday? Perhaps in a separate thread, as I'm sure others would enjoy them, too. Anyhoo, I'm looking forward to seeing more of your Fall /Halloween decs whenever you have time to take some more pics.

Lynn, Bill was a mess, but I loved him. :) His 'hair' died half way through the season and we had to do a transplant.
I was constantly changing his clothes to suit the temp and weather, I'd shop at good will for snazzy new outfits .. my DH was starting to think I was losing it. I sadly can't for the life of me find the pics of Bill dressed as a vampire, I'm sorry!

Thanks so much for asking about our house and your kind comments. I put some pics up on a different post for you. They are ones I already had uploaded as we finished projects, but I've explained what's changed since the work was done. I need to buy a new digital camera, mine went in a river when we were kayaking this spring. Since then I've been using my smart phone .. but the picture quailty isn't great when uploaded to the computer, that's what the spider pics are taken with.

I love Halloween!! We get hundreds of little trick or treaters, so we decided to work on our decorations this year. I added black lights to all of our porch lights for the nighttime effect. We'll have a fog machine rolling in on Halloween and some scary music from the yard speakers.

OMG, Pipdog, how cool! Yours is the kind of house I LOVED going to as a kid . . . what fun! Your entryway is wonderful and that skeleton coming out of the ground is too! Thanks for sharing them with us.

Eek .. that antique pumpkin is scary!

Sorry it took so long, but here's the cottage porch. This is sort of a 'spoof' on DH and I. We spend quite a bit of time hanging out on the front porch talking. The skelatons are so cheesy, I'd love to get real, maybe discounted defective ones .. but not this year. I can think of so many fun ways to dress and pose them .. a different scene each year. I pulled out my yet to be stripped metal chairs for this .. another project to get to, not enough time.

So anyhooo .. Here are the love birds over looking their dearly departed. A hauntingly homey sight .. As the girls put it, this is eternal love. ;)

Oof .. I love Halloween, but I'm glad today is Nov. 1st! :)

My DH and I went to an estate auction Sat, when we got home the girls had been texting their friends trying to get a Halloween party together last minute. :O After much cojoling on their part I agreed that we could do a small party, 4 friends a piece, so 15 kids. So Sunday afternoon we shopped and Monday we tried to pull the party together, plus get ready for the 400 + trick or treaters that we get every year.

I didn't have time to do a lot of decorating inside, so the two younger girl's robbed the cottage and my cupboards and did the front room. *LOL* Totally freaked the dogs out ..

As they decorated, got together goodie bags for the Trick or treaters and helped my DH get the sound system working for the spooky music. My oldest DD and I cooked and tried to pull some food together. These pics aren't the best, my DH quickly snapped them with his phone as we were setting up.

Since it was last minute and a kids party, we used paper and plastic .. we hit the Dollar tree real quick. I 'built' a lot of the stands by using plastic platters and cake plates, stacked.

Not shown up close are the mummy dogs .. hot dogs wrapped in bread sticks, with pepper corns for eyes. We did individual dirt cakes with skeleton hands clawing their way out and I don't think he got a pic of those since i brought them out after the girl's had ate.

Between handing out candy all night and the party, I'm so tired, but it was a fun time.
