Comments (35)Well today was THE day .. my mother had her surgery and came out of it well. The had to remove the one lobe as the growth was cancerous so now we will all have to wait to see what the other tests show if it has spread to her lymph nodes. I dont know why they just didnt remove them at the same time .. oh well I will have to wait to talk with my brother. I am guessing that she will have to have chemo to ensure that the cells are all destroyed. Right now she is in the Critical care unit so the only person who can see her is my dad. I still fell like a poop not being able to be there .. both my bother and I have come to the conclusion that my mom just does not want to inconvenience anyone. But I will be there soon enough. I will leave to go to Sudbury on the 6th .. maybe sooner. I am glad that I didnt go up for Christmas as I came down with the flu a few days ago and just got out of bed today. That wouldnt have been good for my mom. Thank you to everyone for their warm thoughts and prayers. It means alot. Laura...See MoreGift Ideas for 89 Year Old Grandmother
Comments (32)Jen, how about that jar of messages your family made up for your grandparents. Wasn't that you? Can you elaborate? That was indeed me! Well, me and the rest of my extended family that is. I asked everyone to write down their favorite memories of time spent with my grandparents and typed up each one, printed them all out and cut the paper into strips that could be folded and placed in a large, lidded glass jar. I tried decorating the jar several different ways, but just couldn't get it to look quite right, so I opted to attach a wooden letter around the lid that's our surname's initial and left it at that. The jar came with instructions to my grandparents to draw out a memory or two each day, and enjoy reminiscing. I also compiled all of the memories into a notebook that they could keep long after the little scraps of paper were removed from the jar, read and tossed away. I visited my grandparents yesterday, and they told me (again) how much they enjoyed their memory jar throughout the year. :-)...See MoreNewb needs help with outdoor lighting that has died
Comments (14)Viche, FYI the tester is not inherently safer except that it works better saving frustration and frustrated workers can get dangerous. An electronic voltmeter has too little impedance to work well in some instances. Sometimes you can get currents with considerable voltage induced in conductors. They can drive you nuts with their indications of voltages that vary all over the place. A yes/no detector that provides a load will fix that, faster, and better. " ...never buy a house with a hilly yard. :-/" makes me smile recalling my time in Pittsburgh. If a real estate ad was going to have it. "level yard", it was in the first line of the ad. It appears that if you want lights there and don't want to dig behind the wall, some low voltage replacements might be in your future. Find where the circuit goes underground. That is where you install your power supply for the LED lamps if it is not too far away. Running low voltage is less demanding. If the junction box is too far away (voltage drop), you can bury underground cable to a closer point. LOL @ DavidR's anecdote. It is not every day that you find that someone can break two rules with only one cable between splices, but I bet others will post....See MoreI'm new to roses & in Toronto.
