Comments (2)You can paint it. I’d recommend a masonry paint. Romabio makes great paints for masonry. They’re non toxic, have a good warranty and easy to use....See MoreHow to make bathroom look more modern
Comments (10)Lots of companies make fixtures compatible with older valves. I would look into changing all the fixtures (tub, shower, vanity) and a frameless shower door. Changing out baseboards and window sill/framing to something more modern (e.g 1x4 or whatever). Changing the door and doorknob will help as well. If you wanted to get more extensive, replacing cabinet doors with shaker or flat front and modern hardware and countertop material (80/sq ft so on a vanity not much $). All these types of changes are incremental and most can be done yourself without too much effort. Toilet is a standalone change. Some of these changes can be pulled and reused when you remodel. The main thing you get with a remodel 1) pull and get a modern tub 2) new floor 3) completely new shower 4) new cabinets 5) new layout But a lot of what makes modern is the surface stuff and your shower marble isnt terrible.....See MoreHow can I make my home's exterior look more mid century modern?
Comments (5)I don't like the dark paint. With your light roof and light stone it looks like someone tied a dark green ribbon around the top of your house. A lighter color would be an improvement. I dislike the planters and would remove them if possible. I would remove the rail if it is not needed for safety. It is probably original but it makes the door seem inaccessible You can buy a full view storm door and paint it and the house door the same color. I love your lamp post. Do you have a porch light? I made an amateurish image of a lighter house with no planters. Do you think the stone is original?...See MoreHow can I make my 1982 ranch look more mid-century modern?
Comments (10)Your wooden gate is a more rustic style, so you might want to modify it - trim off the dog ears and change the hinges. Agree about the porch post - the style is all wrong for the house. Boxing it in is pretty easy. Also agree about landscaping If you have paint or photoshop, play around with different colors for your trim and siding. The current colors are neutral and safe, but there's no pizazz. Looks at blues, grays and greens, which will work with your brick and roof. I'd paint the window trim too, and look into beefing up the trim with some additional, but simple, molding. I can't see the detail of your front door - if it is a rustic, colonial, victorian etc style, plan on replacing it eventually - and yes, a lighter or brighter color. I don't see how you could remove or replace the "beam" (if I am looking at the thing you mean - across the front, above the windows?) and come up with anything that is better. Your brick ends below it; it is appropriately simple; although it is too bad that it sits right on top of the windows. Perhaps you could paint it to blend in with the brick, but I think just painting it with the rest of the trim is fine....See Moreptreckel
