Honestly, I would paint for now, not for down the road if and and when you change out the windows.

Paint the trim and downspouts white, and if the rest of the house is clapboard (I think that is what I am seeing), paint it white. B.M. has an exterior finish called "soft gloss). Do that for the clapboard. I do my exterior trim in a gloss. One winter will soften it to exactly what you want.

I chose B.M. Super White, but your windows look very white so go with B.M.Chantilly Lace or S.W. High Reflective White.

Because your front door is recessed, keeping it a dark color kinda makes the entry look like a deep hole. Either paint it white or a very bright and bold color.

^^ love the bright door idea! i would be tempted to box up that post by the front door to a clean square so it doesnt look so weak & fussy. We did this on a ranch years ago and it took a good handyman 1 day or a good DIY project too (post stays there, the box is just built around it and trimmed out)

Create an MCM Landscaping Ideabook and work towards something like that a mix of hardscaping and more angular plantings than what you have.

I see you have wood fencing. Wood features are often an MCM feature in the front. A wooden garage door or "wood skin" garage door to cover the one you have might give you an MCM vibe:

Your wooden gate is a more rustic style, so you might want to modify it - trim off the dog ears and change the hinges. Agree about the porch post - the style is all wrong for the house. Boxing it in is pretty easy. Also agree about landscaping

If you have paint or photoshop, play around with different colors for your trim and siding. The current colors are neutral and safe, but there's no pizazz. Looks at blues, grays and greens, which will work with your brick and roof. I'd paint the window trim too, and look into beefing up the trim with some additional, but simple, molding.

I can't see the detail of your front door - if it is a rustic, colonial, victorian etc style, plan on replacing it eventually - and yes, a lighter or brighter color.

I don't see how you could remove or replace the "beam" (if I am looking at the thing you mean - across the front, above the windows?) and come up with anything that is better. Your brick ends below it; it is appropriately simple; although it is too bad that it sits right on top of the windows. Perhaps you could paint it to blend in with the brick, but I think just painting it with the rest of the trim is fine.

Its a very nice house. It isnt an mcm house, however, its a very nice ranch house. I agree on painting the door a very nice color, and boxing in that post, so it is larger and square. Paint the siding and the garage door, and leave the brick. Concentrate on doing more landscaping. Play up the very nice features, it does have. Dont try to make it what it isnt.

I wouldn't paint the vinyl siding. It will do very little to change the look. Downspouts are not a design feature so should be painted to disappear. Choose a colour similar to the brick, but a bit darker and less bright.

Paint the garage door a dark colour so it doesn't pop.

New landscaping in a MCM style would do a lot to improve the house. Put a square-edged bed with low grasses on the other side of your walkway to the house, incorporating the tree.

Thanks all for the suggestions! I know I’m not working with a true MCM but I hope I can make it feel a bit more modern. Here’s the front door. I would like to replace it with something more modern and a brighter color as mentioned. If I square off the beam and leave the siding as-is, should I have it match the beige color of the existing one there?

I'd paint the newly squared-off post the same as the darker-painted garage door. The new "shrubs" should be fluffy grass. I couldn't get it to show properly.

Doesn’t a dark door behind glass bake in the sun? Even a lighter color will probably get very hot behind glass with no ventilation.

Jaxo, it doesnt here. My front door gets the full hot sun every day that there is sun. Its a darker turquoise color. The storm door is white. There has never been a problem. I have storm doors on all my entrance doors. I wouldnt be without them. it gets very hot here.
