Dirtslinger2..Actually, both leaves are gorgeous. You said the center is orange..Was it always orange. If not, could the color be bronze instead of orange? Bronze discoloring is one indication Spider Mites are present. Check for webbing throughout entire fern.. Were you able to rid Mealy? Chemical insecticides are harsh. Ferns, being fragile plants may have negative results. Of course, if you tried other methods, organically, that didn't work, guess I can see why you'd go chemical. Well, not really, lol...I don't use chemical insectides. Another reason plants acquire insects..dry air. Lack of humidity. Spray leaves daily, and shower. I take plants to the sink, spray with hose. Especially humidity-loving plants. You can also place your fern atop a pebble trey/saucer. Have you tried this? Can you post a pic of your fern? Leaves are very pretty. I love ferns, but know my limit. I was given a dwarf, Australian Tree Fern last summer. It looks nothing like it did upon arrival. lol. I removed a couple, brown stems. Apparently, it needs more spraying. More than once a day. It's also on a pebble tray. They're not the easiest ferns to grow indoors. Toni

Is it all on one cane? If so I suggest removing just the cane with the odd growth at ground level. You could then try spraying the rest of the bush with commercial 3% hydrogen peroxide and/or putting aspirin tablets near the roots to try to booster the plants immune system against virus infections. Activated Charcoal (Carbon) is the only thing that I have found to work. The best I've used is Biogize-SD which is available on Amazon under 'soil detox'. They have an easy mix and apply bottle which I just run through my hose-end-sprayer and apply to the soil. But they also sell it in bulk (40lb box). I'm convinced my tomato plants were suffering from herbicides big-time until I treated them with the AC. They revived nicely. Dupont, who recalled "Imprelis" after it killed thousands of trees (and still is) recommends Activated Charcoal as the treatment to use during replanting.

I'm quite sure after reading this thread that i have an answer for my early girls, which are all doing this thick leaf stem growing upwards and twisting (more like a sucker would do), with large, thick leaves that are also turning upwards and rolling/twisting. There is zero discoloration or otherwise poor health indications, i grow in the middle of 50 acres, totally organically, my own compost used, mulched with wood chips a year old from within the property. I've used zero pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers. Just compost, coco coir, water and my seedlings. They aren't stunted, are growing quite fast actually but, here in Northern California in the Sierra Nevada mountains we've seen record breaking temps between 90-105 for a few weeks straight now and I'm pretty certain my plants are just tired of baking. I'm hanging shade cloth tomorrow and will post pictures as well because it's quite bizarre how hearty they are but growing like an upside down tipi (and it's only my early girls doing this, the other varieties are all fine.)
