Baby Gift and Big Sis Gift
Comments (21)I colored the Mapei premixed grout/adhesive with just basic red acrylic paint. Just a couple of drops. I grouted the heart for big sis first, and then added more grout to my dark pink mix to make a lighter pink for the baby frame. I have used other colors for different grout, and the paint seems to work well, except for black or shades of gray. To get a decent gray, you need too much paint, and then the grout is too watery. For that, I use Rit dye. For the pearls, I popped them in the grout, waited a bit for the grout to harden, pulled them out, and then E6000'd them after the grout was dry. Otherwise, I've had the experience of pearls falling out, which is not good. Also, it is darn hard to grout around pearls....See More"baby book" project from He!! & possible gift idea for others
Comments (37)I am so glad, Sue, I know everyone will enjoy it! Funny you mention the cost. When I first embarked on this, I was thinking it will be a big impact present where the gift is our time not the cost. Yikes, even with the 50% off, each book was $200 OMG. I didn't really expect that, but after all the work putting it together, I wasn't going to go back and trim. I may regret making them so large, 11x14, but I know i usually like photos to be bigger. I also fell for that very pricey for that "lay flat" upgrade that allow you to do those "centerfold" shots. Heck, i actually fell for every type of upgrade they offered, including a storage box. And then I have the engraved USBs and those boxes. But oh they will be so pretty. I actually went with this one because I liked the idea of putting a photo with it. They also have them in navy, grey, and Tiffany blue. I was upset that I had to switch my product to Shutterfly, but I have to give them a big shout out. They have added so many features to their books, and so many options for designing them. Plus, they still had my photos on there from 2005, though I had not done business w them in years. In some cases, they were photos i did not find anywhere else in my files. Whew. One of the best parts of making the book was doing the captions, and adding in things like scans of their footprints, their baby announcements, etc. I also commissioned DH to write a letter to each of them talking about the day they were born and their first few years. He did a wonderful job, brought tears to my eyes and made me laugh, too. We finished yesterday. Finally. Annie - love that tree! we do have a few photo ornaments, but a whole tree! Fab Running - Even from book 1 to book 3 i got better at it and fancier. There are soooooo many options and embellishments and features. And if you have the right dates on your photos, the autofill feature is a great start. Enjoy!...See MoreHelp - need advice re: baby shower gift
Comments (14)I agree with this "like any other gift giving occasion. How much you spend is a function of your means and you closeness" but would add, that is it also a function of the means of the recipient. I might give a very impractical cashmere baby blanket (albeit washable) or baby china to an affluent couple. For a couple with very limited means, I would choose something very practical ... even diapers (a lot of them clearly). For any occasion where someone is registered, 80% or so of what I give is from the registry, with the other 20% a total surprise based on my own ideas (like gift giving of yore). And yes, a baby book, pref a board book, and not one of the top 10 most popular....See MoreNeed Baby Gift Ideas
Comments (7)My hairstylest is having a long awaited baby. She had much trouble conceiving. Anyway, the couple is of Mexican and Guatemalan decent. They have lived in America for around twenty years and I wanted to get the baby boy a raggedy Andy doll but one that would look like it could be Mexican or Guatemalan. No such thing. Sheesh, there are only black or white Andy’s. I found a very nice seller on Etsy with good reviews and where you could choose hair color, hair lines, skin tones, doll length, clothing and more. So, although not an Andy I’m sort of excited about it because it with look like a kid member of the family. Shame about the Andy, my son carried his around for a few years but this etsy doll/brother should be good. It comes boxed nicely as well. Don’t have it yet though and I need ideas for a little something else to go with. ETA: Well after all my hype the WiseWomanDesignsShop is temporarily on hold as she is moving. There are others on Etsy though I think. Glad I got my order in in time. ETA: Didn't want to highjack by adding this on to Funky thread asking for idea's so I'll edit here. Nini, thanks for the idea of books! I found two that are in English & Spanish, one for tiny baby and one for tots....See MoreIda Claire
