My go-to is a bunch of Everyman's Classics for children. The books are lovely and reading these stories together with my boys was one of the highlights of their childhoods for me (they liked it too ;-) I buy anything from two to many along with either a stuffed animal, a silver or pewter baby cup, rattle or teething ring, depending on the occasion and budget for the gift.

Off topic, but this is what my Indian neighbor's mother gave me when I had one of my children. I was quite overwhelmed at how thoughtful he and his family were, considering he was a single guy.

I loved the baby blanket recently shared here with the baby's name! Not sure what the cost would be, but if no substantial enough, then add a gift card (and the stuff animal!!).

My hairstylest is having a long awaited baby. She had much trouble conceiving. Anyway, the couple is of Mexican and Guatemalan decent. They have lived in America for around twenty years and I wanted to get the baby boy a raggedy Andy doll but one that would look like it could be Mexican or Guatemalan. No such thing. Sheesh, there are only black or white Andy’s. I found a very nice seller on Etsy with good reviews and where you could choose hair color, hair lines, skin tones, doll length, clothing and more. So, although not an Andy I’m sort of excited about it because it with look like a kid member of the family. Shame about the Andy, my son carried his around for a few years but this etsy doll/brother should be good. It comes boxed nicely as well. Don’t have it yet though and I need ideas for a little something else to go with.

Nini, thanks for the idea of books! I found two that are in English & Spanish, one for tiny baby and one for tots.

I think that doll is a sweet, unusual gift, jt! Books are also wonderful…our children received so many and I always thought about the giver as we would read the books.

Sadly, I am a baby clothes addict so I literally cannot keep myself from stalking the baby boutiques when I need a gift. 😂 I have a penchant for those blissfully soft, all organic cotton sleepers in sweet baby prints. Kissy kissy is my go-to brand ( www.kissykissy.com .) I had many kissykissyies for my babies, and they were just hands down the best…softest, snuggliest, cutest. They also sell blankets…you could get a blanket, monogram it, and a sleeper. That would be lovely (not inexpensive, though.)

Zalco, actually not off topic-- the silver medicine/milk feeder is perfect! a milk/bread porridge is one of my friend's regular breakfasts and he mentioned it's typical for a child too. Thank you!

My kids loooved their taggie blankets that were a new phenomenon when they were babies. Definitely a modest gift but maybe nice to pair with something else.
