Lentils.....a case of expectation vs reality?
Comments (26)The only time I soak lentils is when I cook them with rice as a side dish so they will get done at the same time as the rice. I saute chopped onions and garlic in olive oil, then add rice and lentils, spices and water or broth, cover and simmer until they're done. This winter, I tried an unusual lentil soup with fruit. Even though it had the garlic and cumin, the flavor was delicate for a lentil soup. LENTIL-APRICOT SOUP (6 Â 8 servings) 2 cups red lentils, rinsed and picked over 8 cups water or more (used part vegetable broth) 2 cups finely minced onion 2/3 cup 1/4" diced carrots 2 tsp. ground cumin 2 tsp. dried mustard 2 Tbs. minced garlic 1 cup minced dried apricots 1 1/2 to 2 tsp. salt or to taste 2 to 4 Tbs. balsalmic vinegar (or to taste) Black and cayenne peppers to taste Chopped cilantro or parsley for garnish Put lentils and water or broth in a soup pot. Add the onions, carrot, mustard and 1 tsp. of salt. Bring to a boil; then reduce heat and simmer, covered, until the lentils are soft, adding more water if mixture seems too thick. Add the garlic and apricots and simmer, covered, for an additional 15 minutes or so. Stir in the vinegar and peppers to taste and correct salt if needed....See MoreCambria prices per sq foot? + Cambria vs Home Depot/Lowes quartz?
Comments (92)No engineered stone is approved for UV exposure. It’s not an industry secret at all. None can go outside. Period. If your professionals that you worked with had done their jobs, you’d be an educated consumer and know that it’s not an exclusion just for Cambria. Direct sun from standard new windows shouldn’t pass enough UV to damage your floors, furniture, or e-stone. Standard windows already come with UV blocking properties, so if yours are so old that they don’t have it, you’ve got other issues about UV exposure in your house. Old windows need UV blocking film installed to avoid degradation to all kinds of interior finishes. Not just your e-stone. If it’s a relatively new window, that’s a conversation that you need to have with your window manufacturer. It’s defective. This is Not on Cambria. Or Silestone. Or Pental. Or Zodiaq. Or any e-stone manufacturer. New windows shouldn’t have issues with transmitting enough UV to damage your home.. Poop happens. This isn’t on Cambria. Talk to your window manufacturer....See MoreMSI quartz pricing msi fabricator vs others
Comments (13)I am a fabricator. If the fabricator has to buy slabs specifically for your job then whatever is left over is waste you pay for. Slabs are typically 55 -65 sq. ft. and many kitchens fall into the 50 - 75 sq. ft. range so more than one slab is needed. Your best opportunity for the lowest price is working with a fabricator that stocks a color you want as he can use one full slab plus a partial slab as the leftover material goes back into his inventory for the next job. Given the preceding it is still to you advantage to shop different fabricators as pricing can vary significantly from shop to shop. The fabricators that sell only a single brand will almost always be the highest price per sq. ft....See Morehanstone specchio white vs msi q quartz sparkling white
Comments (2)All quartz is foodsafe, and all quartz has a fairly low melting temperature, as you have discovered. You'll have to be very careful of putting anything hot on a quartz surface if you go with this material. Heat damage is difficult to repair inconspicously on quartz. Also, resin makes up a significant percentage of the composition of quartz so yes, if you have UV light exposure on the quartz, you can expect yellowing.
