Can anyone recommend a paint color for our guest bedroom?

I'm starting on the decorating for our guest bedroom and need help with paint color for the walls and suggestions for finishing the bed linens. This is the duvet cover that I will be using. The headboard is a natural linen and the bedskirt is also a natural linen. The carpet will eventually be replaced, but right now I have to work with it. There will be one of those little night stands on each side of the bed, and I've ordered 2 of the lamps pictured. They are white with a blue linen shade.

I can get a different blanket and pillows for the bed, and right now have no art work for the walls. It is not a large bedroom, which is why the night stands had to be narrow. The bed and night stands take up that wall.

I'd like the walls to be a blue or green. Can you offer any suggestions on paint color? Any help with dressing the bed?

With regard to paint colors ... please don't rely on advice we could give based on looking at the picture of your duvet cover (which is very pretty). The colors on our monitors can look very different than reality. I would advise you to take the duvet cover into your local paint store. They can help identify a couple of colors for you to try sampling on your walls (paint 24" squares on your walls to see how the colors look in various times of day). You could even have your paint store do a color match to one of the colors on the duvet.

Personally, if it were my room, I would keep the walls off-white and let the toss pillows and accessories provide punches of color to play up the beautiful pattern in the duvet. Could add some gourd lamps, for example, in a beautiful light blue, for example.

Staying neutral on the walls also gives you the option of trading out the duvet in winter for a darker color palette, if you wish.

we have not attached it yet--- we need to look at the bed frame to see if its able to attach -otherwise we will get the appropriate frame- DH does not want to attach to wall-- its pretty sturdy even though its not attached.... HTN-- i hear you about transitional-- i kind of felt like i was liking that style but yes the rest of our house is traditional-- i'm keeping the headboard- so i'll see what else i come up with... I also think the bed needs an ivory throw blanket and a nice bench (thats lighter by the foot of the bed)... to be continued

Sg-Beautiful! About 15 years ago I painted our living room a rose color. Can't remember what I used. But it was very pretty in there. One day I had an upset stomach and got the Pepto-Bismal out, and I looked at the bottle, then my walls, held the bottle to my walls and it was a perfect match. lol So if I feel the need to paint a room pink again, I'll compare it to the PB color! heh. It was very subtle and light rosey. I love "pink" rooms! I think most people are afraid to use the color in a public area, but IMO, it's one of the prettiest colors for LR's, etc.

I love love love my BM gray owl (in the aura matte finish) bedroom-- it is a very light gray takes on a blue tone in my room but ever so faint and ethereal. My floors are a medium oak. Annie has a point about selecting bedding etc but I did not do that for a few reasons-- mostly, because I like to change bedding up and also, I needed to paint the house before I had everything settled. So far, it's worked well with anything I've tried. I couldn't be happier with it. It gives my smallish, dark room a cheery and fresh feel. I don't think I have any photos that do it justice but I'll try to scout a few out. Note I also tried BM Gray Cashmere and thought for sure I'd go with that-- but it turned *too* blue. Gray Owl was perfect.

Thank you, Tartanmeup. Your kind words about the art piece are so appreciated! We had placed the bed on the opposite wall where the dresser is positioned now, but I found walking into the room with the side of the bed in such an obstructive position upon entrance off-putting. Not having an on-going pathway threw me off. The overall feeling seemed cluttered. We also placed the bed in front of the window but it seemed a bit odd with the type of windows we have (vertical, crank-style); opening the windows would prove to be so challenging. Maybe, too, seeing the back of the headboard from the window view which is at the front of the house strikes me as a bit odd, more so than if this were at the back of the house. Mostly, it’s the window style that doesn't seem to suit having the bed in front of the that window. It just seems that the bed is best suited in this position so as to create more space. Thank you again!

I've ordered the shams and bird pillow. Getting ready to order the 2 pillows from Etsy. It may not all get here before company Nov.1st, but that's ok :)

How did it all turn out? The pillows all came in (the willow ones I had ordered from Etsy got here TODAY all the way from Indonesia!). I put a white pitcher with flowers on the dresser and a little pottery vase with purple flowers on the small table next to the chair. I really like the way that chair corner turned out. The pictures on each side of the of the bed are of local places of interest. I wasn't able to figure out what to do with the space on each side of the dresser, so for now I'll just let it be. Company will be here tomorrow!!! It's been a whirlwind. Never could get the blinds ordered in time, so that will be done sometime in October.

BTW, did I fix all the pillows the best way?

So, to all of my "decorating friends" at Houzz who helped me transform this room, THANK YOU!!

Margo - you didn't win the bed in front of the window dilemma, but you got the white pitcher on the dresser, the bird pillow, no antique loveseat, no lizzie borden picture, and the arrangement of the chair, lamp, and side table. So you did pretty well, I'd say :)))))

A Crew of Two - Love the curtains and the throw on the chair that you helped me find and your input with the chair. You're great at shopping!!!

abbeyjean and mforr - you've helped all along the way!! Love all of your input, you both have had a big influence on how several of the rooms in my house have turned out. :)

What a great room.i've this thread from the beginning. The pillows on the bed really work well.

it came out beautiful! The throw actually balances out the color of the closet doors too! The decision to put the bed in front of the window paid off as it balanced the room. if the rooom is not in balance, it always loosk a little 'off'.

Congrats! You have excellent taste as you know what you like and what you don't like and used those tools!

Your room looks fantastic. Your guests will never want to leave. I love the choices you made. Very calm and serene. I am so glad you left the closet doors, they balance off your Eastlake dresser beautifully. The white lamps are the perfect size, the throw adds a punch go color and the bird pillow adds personality. I actually love the historic family photo and hope you find a place for her, if not in this room in another.

I would suggest you keep the bed on the interior wall where you had it originally. Then, I would angle the vintage love seat across the corner to the right of the window. I do like the dark dresser on the left side of the window, but it could be just a few inches farther to the left. Some white or pastel dresser scarves would brighten up the antique dresser and contrast with the dark wood tone. As another poster suggested, I would look for a vintage-style floor lamp to place near the love seat. As for paint color, I would suggest a light green found in the print bedding for othe walls. I would suggest white-painted crown molding around the room and the ceiling painted a lighter shade of the blue in the print bedding. Some live plants, white sheers, and print curtains that harmonize with the print bedding will complete the look of the room.
