Is this light fixture too big for my kitchen?
Comments (7)Yes I've addressed it, but you still have the canopy to deal with so really, very detailed measurements are important! The issue with a hardware ring is that they often don't match, ruining the look (don't ask how I know). One thing I love about your chandie is that it's actually quite light looking (ok pun LOL) but it's a high impact, all at the same time. I don't know if you've seen my dining room chandelier. Big, chunky and heavy all at once! (There is a chicken in the middle). It works because I really was precise with the measurements of the thing. I was tight (12.25 inches width difference) but after I let go of the links, and allowed an artist to paint the replacement hook...I was ok, but it wasn't cheap to get to that point! So I'm just saying...measure twice :) Our chandy hangs just at the 30" off the table decorator requirement, and it's perfect...any more, just an inch, would have impacted use of the space. I hope it fits...it's a gorgeous piece....See MoreScale of my New Furniture is Too Big!!
Comments (25)saprek, I love it now! Yes, There's a disconnect between the style of the coffee table and the other furrnishings though, as others have mentioned. An iron and glass table would be more "invisible" and would let your rug shine through. Something transparent would be much better there. Does that white chest your using now come off its base? Maybe you could use it elsewhere as a storage piece at the foot of a bed or a toy chest. As for fabric, I was at Calico Corner and they have lots of sort of contemporary fabrics in the colors of your rug. I think they're expensive but if you need only a few yards you'd be okay. I think for curtains I would look at something light, like cream, with banding made of one of the colors in the rug that you really want to pull out. I'm in love with grey and amber/gold right now. I don't like the dark colored curtain there and I don't know if you should go with pattern. It will really lock you in too. If you keep it simple and bright you can switch things up when you're bored. For basic curtains, You can buy cream ready-mades and band it yourself then get extra banding fabric to use for pillows too. The curtain you have up right now is too dark, IMO and closes the room in. If you want light blocking, what about a natural bamboo type shade under curtains? I've seen nice cheap ones at the mass marketers. You can get them lined to really darken the room. But I don't see doing a really "patterned" fabric. I'd say keep the pattern in the throw pillows, a nice plush chenille throw with a little shine, a big shiny platter on the glass coffee table -- what I'm thinking is right now the whole texture looks very matte. It could use some gleam and also shiny things bounce light around and make a space much more interesting and bigger feeling. It's really looking nice. And I think you're brave to buy HDC chairs without trying them out. Glad they're comfy. I actually need two new chairs for my family room....See MoreI think my rug is too big....help
Comments (18)Heather- In your second photo it is not next to the door, and the fireplace is not a problem. So you just have to decide whether you would rather have it in the living room or the bedroom. I would not get a sectional. They do not solve any problems, they just make make more, as they are oversized pieces of furniture themselves, and your room is not that large. You could keep your eyes peeled for two comfy chairs to face the sofa that are on casters or to which you could add casters, so that if you and your guests are watching a movie, they could just re-position their chairs so they can also enjoy the show. You also need and end table for in between the two chairs, and at the sides of the sofa. And after you get the chairs, hit the tag sales for some great large trays or TV tables for your popcorn and wings!...See MoreIs my sectional too big?
Comments (185)Definitely like one C table as i think i posted early on. I also think the nesting tables are more functional than a single table but surely each concept will work. A single table with your sectional configuration tends to sit in middle where only one person can reach the table. So think about how your family will use your room and go from there. Also, try to stay within one style preference. Your sofa is modern not mid century so i would lean towards modern tables and console. I am not saying they should match just be consistent. Especially with your TV console. Do not mount TV. A way to test where the center of your TV should set, take a string from someone sitting and laying on sofa like you are watching TV. Pull the string to the other side of room. Have person hold string at their eye level. Put small piece of painter tape on the wall. That is best viewing spot for center of your TV screen. Measure from floor to tape. Make notes. Then take with you when buying new TV. BUY TV first. Then know height of TV To determine height of console. Get width as groveraxle mentioned approx 25% wider than TV. Have fun!...See Morekodiac23
