do you think I am too strict with my daughter?
Comments (22)Obviously, the original post has resolved itself one way or another, many years ago. However, just in case others in a similar situation happen along and read this: Babysitting at age 12? Before you allow your child to do this, OR hire a 12 year old sitter for the most precious things in your live, good idea to check the laws in your locale. It's illegal in my state, for children under the age of 13 to either babysit (including siblings) or to be left home alone. Of course, that's not a law that's enforced many times, BUT if something were to happen when a 12 year old were left in charge of children, there could be serious legal ramifications (one of which is that the children can be taken away from the parents). Also, no matter how responsible a 12 year old is, are they educated in advanced first aid? Do they know how to recognize and handle a household emergency (do they know how to turn off the water, the electric, how to replace a fuse?) could a 12 year old protect herself and a couple of children if the house were broken into by some grown men while they were there? She certainly couldn't pack the kids into the car if an ER run became necessary. Personally? I'm not a big fan of letting young teens babysit because they don't have the education or life experiences to handle the kinds of situations listed above. The one exception might be, if the young teen were sitting for the next door neighbor, and her mom was home to help if needed....See MoreOMG!!! I think my hood is too small!!!
Comments (33)pricklypearcactus you and many others will be confused by my comments regarding damage (flammability) ; it's not a big concern, but it is a concern. Regardless of what code says, my concern or the bug in my head is what I wrote out. I'll try using other words now. If, whenever, any damage happens, we all know exactly WHERE it will happen, which is the wood surface that is abutted to the X inch wide open space that is (by minimum, by code) alloted to the hood. All I am pointing out is that this opening is too small to do a good job. It is only a matter of time before the wood pieces (whatever they are) get damaged by humidity and heat. It is guaranteed to happen. That is easy to understand (I hope). AND if a small fire happens, these same wood pieces will be the first ones to show damages. That too is easy to understand. What is the OP to do about the trim? I don't have any highly specific recommendation. I'm lighting a fire (psychologically) to create a sense of need. I am surprised that nobody has ever mentioned that CODE is not quite good enough in this spec. Close, but not there. Code is stupid in this case. And nobody has ever written about it. Self-censorship is a big thing in all of us. There will be a new version of "Code" one day. The framers of this new constitution need feedback. They need these comments. If nobody ever writes anything negative, they will not see the need to write a newer version. I will admit that many people have written that hoods are good when they are 3" wider than the cooking surface....See MoreHelp! I think I tipped my mango tree too early
Comments (5)I agree that would be too low to cut it for me. You top it where you want the first side branches to start. However, it should still grow fine and since it's a seedling you don't have a graft to worry about. The lower branches will drag on the ground, but maybe there is a way to prune to correct that later. I don't know....See MoreI think I hung my chandelier too high but I already cut the wire!
Comments (6)I do agree that it looks a bit high, and usually start around the 30" mark when possible. It depends on the chandelier itself, and you never want to hang too low if it's a wide piece for fear of bumping heads! I don't have advice on how to rewire/add length other than consult an electrician, but if you add taller chairs and a tall centerpiece, that could help with the disconnect. Try a cluster of tall/varied height candlesticks or vases in the same color/finish, and maybe add a runner to complete the look. Good luck!...See MoreRelated Professionals
