I think I planted my rooted cutting too deep

It was hard to gauge the huge (to me) hole I dug, it's a once bloomer so I put out behind the garage, may have been a bad choice because I don't know if it will get enough sun.

We are talking about a cutting that is now about 5' tall, one stem. This is a first for me. Out of a pot that was in the sunroom all winter, hardened off as best I could first.

I dug the hole deep and wider than I really needed, then had to fill back in, but since I was fighting roots, I figured I'd better give it a chance to spread without fighting harder soil surrounding it. If it takes off, it will be tough.

I'm NOT digging it back up, at least this year. Should I pull the bottom leaflets off that are touching the mulch or soil?
