House numbers - which of these 4 choices?

I'm trying to plan ahead on some of the smaller decisions...since the big ones are still knocking me on my butt!!

Which of these 4 choices do you think is best for our house numbers? Or maybe someone has another idea I've not thought of?

Note: Since the house isn't fully painted, our lantern/light is not hung, and our new door has not yet arrived, I was forced to "Frankenstein" a photo. This is our house, but parts of the photo are a cut-and-paste situation. My placement is not totally exact, but hopefully you can get the general idea of what I'm considering.

#1) Centered over door

#2) Vertical next to door

#3) Horizontal next to door

#4) Diagonal next to door

Either of the two horizontal placements. The one under the light can be read at night if the light is on. That might be desirable depending on placement of street lights.

I can't say much about the Wave pump as I have very little experience with them. I have a couple of clients that have the self priming W.Lim pumps and they seem okay. Now Artesian's I can say a lot about. I will share a couple of horror stories with you. A couple of weeks ago I got a call from one of my clients and he said he couldn't get his pump to prime. So I asked how he had tried to prime it. He said that he got the pump out from winter storage and hooked it up and turned it on and left it running. He said that two days later it still was pumping any water. I asked him if he had put any water in the pump before he turned it on and he said no. I told him to fill up the basket with water and try it again. In about a half hour later I got another call and the pump still was not pumping. So I went to look at the pump and laying on the ground next to the union on the suction side of the pump was an O-ring for that union. The union wasn't even hand tight. I replaced the O-ring and turned the pump on and the pump started pumping right away. No damage at all. Last year I got a call from one of my clients that her waterfall had quiet running. I asked her how long had it stopped and she said at least one week. I went there expecting to find an electrical problem. When I got there the pump was running and laying on the ground was the O-ring for the top. I put the O-ring back in and the pump started working just fine. I have another client that called me last spring and said he needed a new pump because he had turned the pump off during the winter and it froze and broke. DH and I are discussing this same question, and decided against the padded leather headboard. Comfy, but prob. won't wear well, will need to be reupholstered or just replaced down the line. Also pretty trendy, as opposed to the more classic beds you're looking at in #s 1 and 2. Who makes #1, by the way? You have lovely taste!

I have a 3.5' by 5' powder room literally tucked under the stairs. The door is only 20" wide. I seriously doubt that it meets code but it was here before we bought the house. The previous owners' son was a plumbing contractor. It does function as what we call the "world's tiniest half bath". We remodeled it a couple of years ago. The hardest part was finding a sink that would work. The best part was choosing tile for the floor. With less than 18 square feet of flooring, even the most expensive tile we liked didn't blow the budget.

Janice, don't even think about gel staining these cabinets. If you don't want it to look like a cheap DIY project, it will take you days of tedious prep work. And for what? espresso color, dated cabinets? For the amount of work that takes, you'd be better off painting them. You said you're selling. Why go through the expense of taking up all of your flooring to lay down a vinyl plank? it's not exactly a high upgrade, and certainly not high enough to warrant extra money in your pocket you'd get after selling. Do you plan on doing the entire area (living room, kitchen, bedrooms?) What is the complete price for demo of current flooring, PLUS buying the new products and install? The one thing that will definitely give you bank for your buck is to scrape those ceilings and get a smooth, painted finish. (check for asbestos first) No one wants a popcorn ceiling. Start there. look at this link. her kitchen cabs are very similar to yours. Minus the appliances, she spent approx $1600 to completely make-over her kitchen. She actually did a pretty good job. Instead of removing the upper doors, you could remove the middle panels and replace them with glass. But hello, since you have time, are you good with the type face and color? I like the black, but I am not sure that I am sold on the arial(?) font for the numbers.

I like the vertical but bigger on that house for sure I am not sure why that would be harder to read .

#1 is worst -- too cramped and hard to find.

#3 is easiest to read; therefore, the best.

I like the idea of bigger numbers. Make it easy for people.

Number 2 - It just looks the nicest! Vertical outdoor lighting and vertical house numbers look nice together.

So #1 is definitely out. It's funny because that's exactly where the numbers always were on this house...from way before we owned it. But then again, it spent the time from 1963 until a few weeks ago as a red brick ranch. It has been totally reinvented!

I don't have or haven't even started to look for the actual numbers I'm going to use. They're definitely going to be black, but I want to wait on size and font until the light fixture is hung and the new door is installed and painted. It might be easier to make the final decision when all of the real pieces are in place.

3. Which one is the easiest to see. You really want people to find your house if you've invited them. Or called an ambulance. Under the light. Also is A good idea.

Agreed, Joe. If there's a mailbox at the curb, you could have the house number on that as well.

In my town we are required to have our house numbers painted on the curb, which obviously isn't very noticeable, but it's good as a last resort if someone doesn't have the numbers on the house.

#3 but larger. Putting them where people expect to find them really helps as does your light right there.

Another vote for #3 and big numbers. Take your time to look for a font (style) you like. The black looks best. Make sure it’s easy to read from the curb.

People forget that the police, or an ambulance, need to know where you are if you call for help. Aesthetics are important, but visibility is vital.

As the wife of a retired police officer, he’ll be sure that no matter what we do it’s easy to see. We will also have the #’s on our mailbox at the road.
