Please help with 'whole house' paint choices
Comments (9)Yeah! Some responses! Thank you so much. I'll try to answer some questions. Lynn I have the fandeck here also. You are right. They are all fairly far down the strips. I guess I'm deathly afraid of having a pastel house and so it is really hard for me to look at the strip and go to the lighter colors. I fully intend to go through LOTS of SW little sample cans. I think drywall will start maybe tomorrow, so possibly this weekend? FUN! For the blue in the Master Suite, I do really want it to be restful. The color above Raindrop is Meander Blue which is also pretty. We have HUGE windows in the bedroom, so I was thinking I could get away with the darker color, but I will definitely try both on the wall. Here are the windows in that room. Not a lot of wall. In the upstairs BR3, I have two little boys. I was thinking I might do some "boat" stickies on the wall in there like the following which is why I went with such a bright color and then "toned it down" in their bath. Or I might do some framed "space" pictures like Very good point about the poster board. I may get started on that today and then take them out at different times of the day and move them around. Thanks for the tip. Hi Lindy! Can you believe I made it this far. ;) They are intense colors. I know. I thought they worked really well in our old home, which was older and smaller, but I'm not sure how they will translate to the open spaces in the new. Just for reference, here are a few of the colors in our old home. This is Sundance in our old living room. And this is Peppery in our dining room. However, you definitely have me reconsidering the intense colors in the bedrooms upstairs. I did a bit of juggling... I changed the hall to Sole which is the lightest color on the Sundance strip. I changed the Bonus area to Clary Sage (one up from Artichoke) but will try both colors. I moved the Softened Green into the guest area and then introduced another color Sands of Time in the Guest/Kid's bedroom #2. I'm probably getting to the point where I just need to get a bunch of colors and try them out. colorcrazed Good idea to move up and down the strip. I did that in the upper hall and if it isn't too "lemon pie", I may try that. It also think I may try the Sole in the Great Room and Foyer and keep the Sundance in the kitchen if it is overpowering in all the space. I really hope it doesn't take me 35 quarts to decide,......See MoreVinyl vs Laminate flooring- Which one's the best bad choice?
Comments (18)I would say that it just depends. The best thing would be to talk to a realtor in your area as there are a lot of factors that can go into this. It depends on what level of house you have and the neighborhood it is in. Who would most likely purchase your house? If your house is higher end and would likely appeal to a family that is established and has a decent income, vinyl or laminate could both be a very poor choice. However, if your home is on the smaller side and most likely to appeal to a family just starting out, then either one could be acceptable....See Morevinyl plank floors - whole house?
Comments (22)Not all laminates are created equal, and the same is true of LVP. LVP is softer on the feet but is more prone to indentations from furniture as well as sun damage (warping or fading) from windows. It's not super common, but it does happen, even with some of the mid-grade brands. We chose laminate flooring and LOVE it. I did a lot of research and the one we chose has a nearly waterproof core, meaning a puddle of water is not going to soak in and damage the floor. Not all laminates are like this though. We've had it for 3 years and it's been a dream to take care of. It's installed throughout our main floor, including the kitchen and half bath. I would not put laminate, hardwood, or LVP in a full bathroom or laundry room but that's just my opinion. I would do tile in those areas. Anyway, we're very happy with our laminate (except it was installed wrong initially and they had to redo it) and would choose it again. I decided against LVP because it can scuff, etc and we have two dogs. Our particular laminate is way more durable than the LVP we looked at (mainly Coretec) and looks brand new....See Morewhole house paint color and bedroom paint color
Comments (13)You’ll have to see what works with your preferences and your house. We went through a lot of white and gray samples and ended up with Sw passive for the house (which I looove) and Zurich in the kitchen only (because I wanted more warmth on the kitchen walls.) Well, ended up loving Zurich so much that now I’m repainting all my house in Zurich.. in our space it looks really velvet-y and not too bright nor to dull.. one bedroom will be Sw white flour (lighter white) is all and another is already sw light French gray. Best of luck with your project. Let us know what you end up with!...See MoreJanice Maxwell
