How to change color of existing canvas print

I bought 2 canvas prints from Hobby Lobby. They are perfect for my kitchen because I have both chickens and pigs but my issue is with the background color. I will be having them almost side by side with a white fork and spoon between them. My wall is black wallpaper. I want to add some white to the background to the canvas prints somehow to make them match better and lighten them up. I thought about using a white wash acrylic paint and maybe sponge painting or using a fanned out craft brush but not sure if this will work. The chicken photo is actually already somewhat washed out but the pig picture is not. Any suggestions?

Ha! Those are silly. :)

I think if you lighten the pig background you risk losing the pig. Have you propped him against the black wall to see just how much contrast you need? Maybe you need frames?

I'm always hesitant to download FF add-ons because I've had some cause browsing issues at certain websites. I'm curious about Stylish though, I've seen that you can change to some predetermined style that someone has created and I'm not interested in doing that with my page. All I want to do is change the font to something more pleasing to the eye and change the background color to tone it down a bit. Can I do that with Stylish? I've looked at a few videos and all I see is some format choices that I really don't want to use. Could someone tell me how to use Stylish to make my own choices of fonts and background colors?

You can get more of your look but it will be easier if you embrace your love of blue and white and think less of gray:) On the plus side, newer design pics show lots of white, warm woods and less gray. I admit my least favorite thing about the kitchen is the paneled fridge followed closely by the over the range microwave which I could not even reach:) Actually, The first thing I would do is nothing since this is a new to you home. Then you can assess what really is bothering you, and your husband may relent on some changes, and you may have a better idea of a budget. In my own kitchen I did change the counters, subway tile backsplash and short apron Kohler Whitehaven farm sink. If I had lots of storage, I might want to remove some of the cabinets on the window wall and put in a larger window or replace the cabinet to the right of the sink with shelves or a plate rail cabinet. I admit mine is more for decor then use - but I love the look. A carpenter can rework that cabinet into a plate rail cabinet. That is not cheap but if I could do that in my kitchen I would, but it is too small. I would look into whether or not ordinary doors are available for the fridge. I would replace the OTR Microwave with a vented hood. I would put up a pretty roman shade. Here is my wood kitchens idea book. Maybe something will inspire. time/age change grout color? matching color variation in existing grt

There are dyes you can use to color installed grout a really time consuming job even with small , straight grout lines so not sure how much you are concerned. I honestly in the pics do not see a huge difference . I think I would go to a good tile shop and see what they suggest. My gut say just leave it but thats me. Everything changes with time and I think that is what happened here.

I think that they will be much more interesting if they don’t match! They are already a pair, in theme and style. Their background colors truly do not need to match. Fori’s idea of propping them against the wall is a good idea, before you decide to do anything drastic.

April Fool's was two days ago but I feel like this might be a leftover. They should really have a "best of" Houzz dilemmas section.

I think it would be easier to change the colors of the fork and spoon instead, or skip that detail entirely. (or return some items and get what really works.)

however, if you must, then here's what I would do:

sponge paint it with watered down acrylic until you achieve a color you like (don't use white. if you want to match the chicken picture, then you need beige tones). remove any mistakes with a wet q-tip dipped in water before it dries. when you're done, after it dries, go over the entire piece with Mod Podge in a matte finish. this will help seal in the paint, and mask any brush strokes between the new color and original print.

you need to be ok with the idea that you might mess this piece up.

I would mix 1 part white acrylic paint with 4 parts Liquitex matte medium and brush the mixture over the entire background.
