help me find a wall canvas print for bedroom

I am trying to find a canvas print to put above the headboard. Unfortunately cannot change the color of the bed frame at this time so have to work with it. I kind of like the canvas in the second picture but it’s a square so not sure if it works. Planning to hem the curtains some day :) and also changing the lampshades. Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

I think the canvas is fine, but if you only "kind of like it" rather than love it, I would continue to look for something with a landscape format.

Choosing art is a very personal decision; I don't see how that can be outsourced to strangers. Of course, questions on size and orientation are legitimate. Clearly, you need a horizontal piece that is about 2/3 to 3/4 the width of the bed (I'm sure there is a rule for that, but I don't know what it is). As for the bed frame, IMO the wooden headboard gives much needed warmth to the room and looks great. The lamps appear to be too small...more than just a matter of the shades. The room looks very comfortable and welcoming.

I have to admit that while I'm great at reading floor plans, site plans confuse me a bit. I know that they matter, so I defer to others on this topic. I do understand the concept of having 12 acres, yet having only one good spot on which to build. I have 40 acres, yet I have one "obvious" spot where the house will be located. Oh, I COULD build in other locations, but it would be more costly (not adjacent to the existing gravel driveway, need to run utilities farther, etc.), but one general area is superior to the others in numerous ways. I don't want to disturb the roughly 50% that's heavily wooded, I don't want to move too close to the little pond in the woods that floods its banks, and I do want to maintain the open field that I rent out to a farmer (this gets me a drastically reduced tax build, and I'm fine with having a corn field behind my house). As for natural light, YES, it matters! Natural light is one of those basics I keep harping upon. Look at some photographs of rooms you like; natural light is most likely the key factor in why these rooms are appealing. To give an example from my current house (though the more examples I give from my sorry old house, the more I wonder why I live here at all), my kitchen /breakfast room /family room faces East. Although I have a covered porch off the back, I get the morning sun in those rooms, and during those morning hours these rooms are at their best. They are MUCH more inviting. The colors are warmer, the room even looks more spacious. By the time we get home from school/work, those prime hours are gone, and although the rooms aren't "dark", they also don't have much life. Colors, window choices, and other things can play into making the most of your natural light, but don't ignore this all-important topic.

Hi, I find guest rooms to be the most fun to decorate because you can sort of make it your dream room that stays clean all of the time :-) I second Lynn's suggestions and would let them know in advance if you are going to have a hairdryer or iron in case they are inclined to pack it. I'm sort of a linen junky and decorate my rooms around my duvet covers. We're in New England so down is a must (and down alternative works great too!). I own the Sienna Paisely duvet and love it, however, when I brought it home it almost had a yellow undertone to it. I have a very neutral room so I ended up bringing in yellow accents and it looks great. I also own the PB Painterly Paisley in blue and that looks fabulous with beige/tan. You may want to look at that one as it will probably go with your existing wall color. I believe it's on sale now and I also tend to find good duvet deals on ebay. Oh and I would definitely try making the headboard dark!

I actually like the color of the walnut. Perhaps doing the inset w/a tufted velvet would bring some life into it. you could also try a diff color on the wall? right now everything is very neutral, which is fine, but you will need to bring in some textures or prints if you want some 'life'. If you notice in your inspo pic, all the diff textures, the art work, the pendant lights, floating nightstands, etc. yours is bordering on a hotel look. So, if you're sentimental about the set, then you'll have to figure out some other elements to offset it's generic headboard look. Putting in a rustic wall w/that furniture, as is, won't work. Painting the wall another color and putting in a white velvet or linen inset might work though.

I think you should go w/something more horizontal and less square. art is supposed to be hung at eye level. your headboard is rather high.

(not necessarily this print) something this size, framed in a thin brushed gold frame.

Narrower and longer would be better. I like the wood tone in the bed and the modern elements you have chosen make it feel less traditional.

Thanks Beth for your ideas. I’ve been trying to find a rectangle canvas, that has blue and a bit of gold. Some are too big, or the design doesn’t click with me :) please keep ideas coming!

shari, yes, try Etsy. they have hundreds of artists on there who will do any custom size (try using some painters tape above the headboard to determine what size would be best) and any color you like. (and you'll have a one of a kind print!)

Don't match your art to your bedding or furnishings. It's fine to consider an appropriate size, but as stated above, art is intimately personal and should speak to or about YOU. Anything else is merely pedestrian. Art should express and inspire. And for that reason, you should choose what you truly love.

I agree that Etsy is a wonderful source of artists . Use Etsy's search box with words like: moonscape, night scene, dusk, evening, nightfall, if you're looking for something peaceful and restful for over your bed.

GreatbigCanvas.com carries loads of images that can be ordered by size with same search words. These are copies, not originals. You'll want to look for images that lend themselves to a panoramic orientation.

I would do 2-3 pieces. With your long horizontal headboard and fairly wide window, I’d want to break up the dominant shapes in the room and expanse of wall. I think it would be much more visually interesting and nicely balanced.

If you use one, I’d do a square rather than rectangle.

Ida said it well in regards to choosing specific art.
