Help me with a design plan for my bedroom, please.
Comments (16)Wow, you all have great ideas! Thank you so much! I think that the wall our bed is on looks funny because of that door that leads to attic storage. Hubby & I were talking tonight about making everythhing on that wall look symetrical by building a bookcase at each end of the wall and add shutters to them as doors. On the right it would actually hide the door to the attic. It would look like it was covered shelving unit but when you opened the shutter doors you would see the attic door. On the left side of the room (same wall) it actually would be real covered shelving. Then we were thinking we could add a padded headboard up to the slant of the ceiling and nightstands. Maybe mirrors above the nightstands to add some depth to the small room. I wish I could draw so that I could visualize this idea. I hope I explained this so that you all could understand. What do you think about that idea? I wish the stain on the wood in the office was darker but we made the built-ins to match a desk we bought from Christopher Lowell and the desk top was that color. It's a laminate or I would sand it and restain it darker....See MorePlease help me finish my bedroom
Comments (25)Hello, I am katsmah's daughter. Thank you for all your compliments and ideas on the room. Almost everything you have recommended, I have tried, but she can be rather stuborn. First, I would like to say, I never leaned toward Tiffany Blue. I think it's too bright, and she doesn't like it anyway. I think the blue-ish grey that you see everywhere now would be beautiful in here. As far as prints, I think a Damask would be nice, it's mature and elegant to go with her beautiful furniture, but she doesn't like Damask, or really any prints for that matter. She wants to do stripes, which I think wouldn't go with the lines of the furniture. As far as moving the furniture around, I did a whole layout on a free website, but she said that outside wall is too cold, and she sleeps here, so it's her say in the end. As far as the headboard, I had first traced out the front arch of the dresser to get the proper length, it's the same width as a queen bed, and then I lined up the ends of the mirror to flow seemlessly into the arch and cut that out, but I don't think I can make a wood frame around it....Update! I just found out she want's Damask now, not stripes anymore. Thank you, now I can actually get this thing started. She is starting to trust me now that you have all confirmed what I have been saying. Thank you all....See MorePlease help me complete the master bedroom
Comments (19)Hi Marina- I love your rug, please keep it. Rather than buying a whole new bed, you can keep the one you have and just turn up its appeal with a headboard that you attach, and better bed linens. For a headboard that won't be too expensive, look at the recent catalog from Bed Bath and Beyond. They have several in different colors and materials. You can get one in white or off white, or get a rich blue. https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/category/furniture/bedroom-furniture/headboards/14474/ Here are just a few of theirs It is very difficult to make a bed with a foot board. You will also turn up the wow factor if you get an upholstered bench (fabric to match your headboard or leather) to put at the foot of the bed. You can sit on it to put on your shoes or get dressed. Some of them are made with storage inside so you can use that for extra shoes and boots, or for linens and extra blankets. You definitely need to get a mattress cover for each of the box springs to protect them from dust and dust mites. Also, get a dust ruffle to make the bed look "dressed." You can get one that look more tailored or one with a ruffle, which ever is your preference. I would get a comforter that is larger. The one you have looks too small for the size bed that you have. You want one that comfortably drapes over the sides of the bed. A bed looks luxurious with more pillows, so I suggest you get two European pillows, which are large square pillows, and you want three of them on a king bed, two on a queen. You want the pillow to be 28" on each side so that they plumply fill a 26" sham. These are the pillows that are decorative and stand up against the headboard. Don't fiddle a little decorative pillows, they are a hassle to take off when you go to bed and to put back in the morning, and they drive men nuts. Just get the European pillows because along with the other pillows, you need them and make the bed look and feel luxurious. You also need 4 of the regular pillows that you sleep on, two for each of you. If it is a king bed, most people get king pillows, so each pillow will reach halfway across the bed, and you put one pillow on top of each other, either flat, or arranged slightly at an angle. The European pillows are arranged vertically against the headboard. Some people choose to keep the shams covering the European pillows the same color as the pillow covers, and others choose to use a decorative pattern or color. If you want to have all your bed linens in the same color family, you can add more interest there by adding some texture in the pillow shams on the European pillows, and adding a an extra textured coverlet folded at the foot of the bed. Ugg makes a wonderful line of textural bed linens and pillow covers that is sold exclusively at Bed Bath and Beyond. It's not cheap, but it's worth a walk into the store to give you some ideas. And of course a velvet headboard is just marvelously textured. These days we are all so busy, many of us don't bother with the formal bedspread, and just spread out a large comforter over the bed. In your room you have the color accent from your marvelous rug, and I do suggest you get some art on the wall with colors that pick up from the rug. Also, don't forget a live plant. Coleus is a marvelous indoor plant that doesn't need a lot of light and it has red in it which will work well with your rug. Don't buy lamps until you get your bedside tables because you want your lamps to be the right height....See MoreDry dusty smell bedroom - breathing problems
Comments (7)Where else is this flooring in your home? If the bedroom is the only place you suffer? It could be something else. and not the floor or the walls. Is this a one bedroom home? An apartment? Is the bedroom is the only place you have the symptoms.? It may come down to new paint on the walls, and a new HARD floor, no carpeting at all. If burning throat and eyes don't happen in your kitchen or living room............it's that or your bedding. It could also be you soaked too much water into carpeting and pad..........and have unwittingly grown some mold below. Shampoos in August are not the best - too warm and humid....See Morebeckysharp Reinstate SW Unconditionally
