Hey stie, I don't think it was too long a post, it's good to give all the information! It's just a quite specialized topic re. the scullery/baking room so perhaps many aren't comfortable giving feedback as we just haven't worked with that type of layout before. I think the kitchen part looks great. And you've obviously put a lot of thought into the layout and storage that will work for you! The dish storage area is a little far from the dishwasher but that's a good tradeoff IMO for having the fridge on that side for looks and the dishes central to both breakfast nook and dining room. Me, I'd use the second area as a beverage/snack making space, perhaps put the coffee bar and wine bar in there. I'd prefer to do baking prep in the main kitchen instead of what might feel a bit like being sent to the principal's office. And I'd have both dishwashers by the main sink as a lot of the time I don't think the right stuff would end up in either one anyway especially as you balance wanting to do one full load vs. two half-loads at a time. But is that feedback worth anything to you? Probably not, because it's not the way you cook and I don't bake like that so can't wrap my head about the separate scullery area. But it looks like it will work for you, based on what you posted above. And that's the most important thing! I love the elevations and I think it will be a really pretty space!

I agree about the corner base cabinets...while it's nice to have the extra countertop when you have diagonal cabinets, you really don't have the room in your kitchen for them. The cabinets w/a 90o corner will give you 12" of "breathing space" on each side of the range as well as open the kitchen up somewhat. As to the uppers, I think the problem w/the corner cabinets on the wall is the hood. The hood is pretty big for your kitchen and when combined with the diagonal corner upper cabinets it looks pretty crowded on that wall. I'd either change the hood to something less "massive" or also put in upper cabinets w/a 90o corner. As to baskets...it probably isn't a good idea to store your potatoes & onions that close to each other. This topic periodically comes up and it's usually brought up that these items should not be stored together.

I love the option with the range on the wall. In my current kitchen the aisle on the portion where the cooktop and fridge is is only 39”. The only time it feels crowded is when we have a houseful for a holiday, so maybe 2-3 times a year. The rest of the time it is one or two people actively cooking so it’s fine. Generally my husband works in one spot and I work in another. We decided it was worth the trade off for the additional space and storage in the island. I was on a budget and making the kitchen, and thereby the house bigger wasn’t an option. After living in this house for 21 years there is only one thing I’d change in the kitchen and it wouldn’t be that, so I guess it worked out just fine. Can you do a 36” fridge and then do an apartment sized fridge in the pantry? That’s what we ended up with, however our smaller fridge is in the garage storage room, so not as convenient as your pantry location! We keep all the kids drinks in the fridge in the garage, which also helps with the traffic in our work zone. Also, I’d make the pantry door a pocket door. That way when you are cooking and maybe doing a lot of back and forth you can leave it open with out it being in the way.

I like mama goose's plan above. Much better. I understand your thoughts about aisle space, but how old are your kids? Remember that in a few short years you will have a lot of full-sized bodies hanging out in this space together. We are three adults in a new kitchen with 48" aisles (moved from a tiny one) and it is wonderful. We can walk past each other comfortably, and there is room to get by with a fridge door, oven door, dishwasher door, etc open. It's also a joy to be able to have both the dishwasher open and the dish drawers across from it open to unload into! :) Personally, if it were me, I would decrease some of the appliance sizes in order to create more storage in more cabinets, and then shrink the island a little. Are you planning a counter-depth fridge? I guess the sub-zero is a built-in? Just thinking about the standard depth fridge also jutting into the room quite a bit potentially adding to the aisle issue. cpartist will remind us that we need to measure aisle distance from counter-edge to counter-edge. I was quite surprised when our cabinets went in, because everyone talks about 24" deep standard measurements. But actually, that's the depth of the boxes only. Drawer faces/cabinet doors can be 3/4", plus hardware, and then countertops overhang 1.5" to cover those door faces (25.5" counters are standard). On the island, the cabinet door/drawer faces on both sides will add a total 1.5", plus the 1.5" countertop on all sides. Those aisle inches really start to get eaten up! We ended up making last minute adjustments to our island dimensions when the pieces started coming in! :) We found it extremely useful to physically walk ourselves through the various routines of the day while cooking to imagine how we might use the space. If you haven't already, you might do this imagining yourselves a few years down the road with bigger kids/teens (presuming that yours are still young at the moment). Imagine wanting 2 kids on dish duty, while an older teen and 2 friends run in to the fridge looking for snacks, while you and another child are working on prep for dinner. Perhaps you have something in the oven that needs to come out when the timer dings. Will it be chaos of bumping into each other and people banging into open doors? Lol. Or will there be logical pathways for everyone to go about their business in harmony? In our case, we knew that we needed everyone to be able to be doing something different in the kitchen at the same time in different ways, while still being comfortable. My mom can be baking and accessing a clean-up sink while we are prepping and making dinner, or we can be washing dishes and heating up snacks while she preps a big salad or makes her dinner; my DH can get his coffee and toast in the mornings while we are making oatmeal and tea...which means we can all live together comfortably for many years to come.
