mitered edge for danby marble island countertop

My fabricator for our kitchen told me even if done onsite the marble is too delicate for a mitered edge. It feels weird to question a professional but I see mitered edges all over the internet for marble. A little disappointed as I thought this was a no brainer.

It is called seeking multiple opinions and is a smart thing to do whether the professional is a doctor, lawyer, or stone fabricator. Does your fabricator have a lot of experience with Danby?

Hopefully Diana weighs in on this one. She is the Danby queen!

thanks for the response. I did reach out to a different fabricator who said it could be done. Issue is we've already paid the fabricator for the stone so it looks like I'm stuck with no recourse for getting what we want. Hopefully this doesn't annoy us to no end. They said it was mostly a transport issue that would cause the breakage due to it being transported on edge.

Thanks all. In the sample I touched (I ordered one of my own) the pure white quartz really did read as porcelain enamel. However, I am very hesitant to act as a guinea pig. I realize Corian has a proven record of being easy to design around, but it just feels too plasticky. It doesn't bother me in the Rain Cloud pattern but that won't work for the look I want. I've already spoken to the Custom Ceramic Coatings guy, who does a lot of porcelain enamel work for stove restorers and such. They are almost the only game in town for small custom projects. However, that requires a lot of time and a lot of shipping clear across the country for a 3 x 6 countertop. On top of which, this top needs to accommodate water-impervious cutouts for sinks, faucets and whatnot. I was hoping to stumble across someone who had actually done this, but considering the fact that there are zero pictures on the Web, chances are slim.

I love the Danby Marble. For over a year now, I have had 2 square samples I use to put my coffee mugs on and I keep in the kitchen to get abuse and they look as good as new to me. I really love this marble so much. When I am ready to redo my kitchen again, this will be a top contender along with a few others.

Blaming the stone for this unacceptable. It is obvious that they couldnt handle this simple mitering project and they should had never accept to do it. My suggestion is to: -Show them some of properly done mitered projects to prove that it is their fault. Unfortunately I got no photos of this material in my website but I do have many pictures of other quartzite complicated projects with Cristallo quartzite or Taz Mahal . Cristallo quartzite full mitered vanity Taz Mahal quartzite polygon full mitered island Since it is not installed the right thing is to get a refound . If you cannot be refound you might be able to accept the loss of your deposit and get your stone as is. Find an appropriate fabricator that may can modify and work with whatever you got left of the quartzite plus little more of the same material to get the job done. Be sure to check some of the mitered work of the profesional you ll find before you make any deal. You can still save this job.

How does a mitered edge countertop work?

"We are trying to determine how low our sink should sit in order for it to be under mount, but with this correlate with how much of a mitered edge we have?" This edge isn't mitered, but the concept is the same. You can build your edge down at your sink cut out or you don't have to. Here is a 1/2" thick solid surface top that had a retrofitted built-up sink edge: Hope this answers your questions.

"Done onsite" WHO does THAT? No one with a decent OSHA compliant shop. Only a fly by nighter does on site.
