The table in the corner is too low. You need a small console table or small chest that has a height of 34 to 36". See examples:

You want the scale of furnishings to work within the space. You need larger, taller objects. And they should connect to each other. Normally art is hung with the center at eye level. Yours is quite high. Also, when above a piece of furniture, it may be best lower, a few inches above the surface, so they connect. How do you use this door? Function is important too. Do you have another door as your primary entry? Or would it help to have some storage and/or a small seat to take off shoes next to the door? Or a landing place for packages or guests belongings. You may also want a larger more colourful rug that works with the rest of the room.

You could definately use some art on the walls. Will you take a pic of the entire entry showing both side walls... and also a straight on shot of your fireplace wall?

Among the great ideas shared by @P Banos, consider a console table with(out) a drawer and a bench or stools under it. Put a mirror on the wall behind it and a small table lamp.

You have the perfect spot to create a grand entry! Get a taller, larger console table ( there are so many options and prices available) , add a large colorful rug, and top it off with art.

Show a photo of both walls by standing back from the front door. I want to see if both walls are the same size.

I suggest no furniture, a new over head light, and wallpaper.

Nothing on the side behind the door when it is open. What Sabrina and PBanos suggested on the other side. A console with a mirror is nice for those last minute looks before leaving the house. The space looks a bit small to have anything wide enough to hold stools below.

What do you think of these ideas?

• small white shelf under mirror (could put a narrow basket on it for keys,etc,)
• an easy to care for semi tall plant in a white pot (snake plant?)
• a bigger rug to almost fill the space ( I like how the semi circle lines up with your door and also that it seems to compliment your family room rug)
• a taller & wider canvas print to fill the wall better on the left side.

Can you show a picture of your entry from as far back as you can? I'm really intrigued by @grapefruit1_ar's suggestion to visually expand your entrance area with a large area rug. It also would protect the floor in what appears to be a cross-traffic area from left and right. I still think it's nice to have a bench to sit on or set packages on just inside the entry, a mirror to check your look on the way out, and maybe a narrow console or even a small ledge. What of these, if any is important to YOU?

Here are some pictures. I measured the walls . They are pretty much the same lenghth wise. i have the round mirror at the fireplace side and hence dont want to keep another mirror on the walls. Plus I don't need a seat / ledge / storage space etc, as we use our garage mostly for in and out. We use this entrance mostly for guest access .

But I do want to make this space appealing for the eyes, as it very close to our living space the couch. We are kind of very happy with the living space but i am unsure of the entrance space, wall art , rug etc. I am only looking to beautify the space ,as primary function :) and it's important to me. I would have loved to create a grand rug entry space but i am afraid there is not much space between couch area and door entrance. It's just a few steps away.. I would like to infact remove anything that i have currently in the entrace space / move it around with your inputs.

PS - we recently bought the rug for the blue couch, so I am afraid I cant change it just yet.

At this point, Since I dont need any furniture at the entrance walls or doors. I was thinking of going with wall paper and art on the walls. I already have the mirror elsewhere in the living space , so cant go with that for the entrance.

Thanks for clarifying that you don't use this as your regular entry, only guest entry. And you want it to look nice from your seating area. Get rid of the interesting table and lamp. Get rid of the little storage until on the other side and everything on it. Measure the floor space in front of the door from wall to wall and from the door out to where the little walls end. Find a blue and cream area rug to repeat the door and wall colors, assuming you want a blue door and cream walls still. Take a picture. See if that's enough for you. If you never spend time in the area, all it is is something to look at. At a distance, most items will look like clutter unless you keep it very simple. I don't see any point in hanging art on the side walls, since you won't see it from the TV area. I don't see any point in hanging art either side of the door since it would be so far away. Just keep it simple and show us what that looks like.
