Design Dilemma Furniture living room

small living room, no entry way. furniture design help needed

Hello!
Me and my husband are currently under contract on our first home- a 1930’s craftsman style. We love it and it has a lot of character that I’m excited to design and decorate. My biggest dilemma at the moment is the living room. The house opens up to the living room with no entry way. The room is small and is our only “living/family room” space. Our plan is to hang a tv above the fire place.
What would be the best way to arrange the furniture so that the room doesn’t feel cramped and over crowded and so that there is an entry way type feel when you walk in? We also don’t have any furniture yet and will be purchasing once we move in so I am open to any suggestions!! Thank you!!

You could even get a piece of plywood or something and paint it the color of your wall and tack it over the landlords door...it will fade into the background. If you move, you can take it down with no problem. A couch and couple of chairs will give you lots of "decorating room" and you can make a cozy room.

I don't mind the table and mirror and can't really think of anything besides art that would fit on that wall. Can't see the table details well but could it be painted? How about red to match your lovely door? What would say "fresh and cozy" to you for that space? Have you thought of a new light fixture? A runner and a larger rug in the entrance could look good. I don't find the clock visible from the door to be welcoming so I'd be tempted to remove it.

Hi Judy, thanks for visiting my post! 1. I hope this photo helps visualize what I mean. The green is where the couch currently sits and the red is where I would like to put the island. The blue is where I would like to put some sort of bookshelf or bench. 2. I was just trying to say I would like the living area to be as welcoming as possible when people enter the living space. I don’t have a floor plan as of right now, I will try to get one! If you have just entered the front door, immediately to the left there is a blank wall with an open door frame leading to the bedroom space of the house at the end of the wall if that makes sense

@Maddy Jens congrats on the house it looks beautiful! I grew up in a 1929 bungalow with no formal entry. Your new space looks like there may be room for an entry to the right as you walk in. A bench (with storage) below the window and a thin profile console table with mirror on the wall to the right of the opening to the dining room? The fireplace seems to be the focal point of the room. Keep a couch with or without chaise add-on on the wall and perhaps round coffee table with two chairs facing the couch?

If you need desk space that could go where the rocker is now, against the wall perpendicular to the fireplace wall.

Too bad about that return air vent eating up all that valuable wall space where TV should go to the right of the FP. Might be worth it to have that moved to the other side if at all possible.
