Help me pick a Nelson bubble light!
We are starting renos and I need to pick a pendant light for our living room to replace an old ceiling fan. The room is about 11 ft x 13 ft with vaulted ceilings (17 ft i think).
I would love a Nelson bubble light, but which one and which size?
Thinking a saucer, but do i go L (35” diameter) or XL (50” diameter)?
Or perhaps the ball in L (27” diameter)
And what length to hang it?

Comments (34)I told the saleschild at the local distributor that I'd had no problems with the one I bought from Modernica 15 years ago, and he tried to tell me that Modernica only made knock-offs. Rubbish. Don't mess with me about MCM design history, kid. I know the history of that whole situation, and they made originals with original equipment which they bought from a manufacturer who went bankrupt. But HM, which operates the George Nelson Foundation, saw how popular the lights had become, and sued over licensing and won. Clearly I'm more than just a little ticked off. Comments (2)To your question about the pendants in relation to hanging from the track, Yes you can order any line voltage pendant, preferably on cord or chain, the rods make it a bit more challenging as to the adapter. They make about 3 kinds of adapters for track pendants depending on what you need. As to placement, because you have track it actually allows you to move them to whatever area you would like them to be in. last yearI'd actually do a grouping of Nelson bubble lights instead of just one, especially for a room that large with high ceilings. Funny, I was staying at a hotel recently and they had a great grouping that I took a picture of, below:
Now, you don't have to do this many, but I love the effect of multiples. I'd go with an odd number, like 5. Hang them at different heights like they did here.- PRO

Keep in mind the fan in the space was probably 54" in diameter
An open fixture like the ones posted below would be visually interesting in the space.
