I can see why it might be advisable to remove the left/rt portions of tile, but I would be inclined to wait until ithe kitchen is completed before deciding. If, as your gut tells you, it "needs" to come down, nothing is really lost except a little more time with it up. Perhaps knowing you are not "locked-in" or committed to it, will help give the perspective to view it more objectively while deciding for sure. This way you will not only have the chance to see it with everything else in place, but you will also have the opportunity to get used to it, before deciding if you truly dislike it, or just haven't gotten used to it being there. As subtle (in color) as our tile is, after months of looking at white painted Sheetrock, it still looked "different" and stood out when we looked at our kitchen. Once we became accustomed to it, we couldn't imagine our walls without it. That's how I am with many things--after living with a blank wall or empty space for any period of time, even a long awaited piece of furniture or decor item jumps out at me, and almost seems like too much, until I get used to the vacant space being filled. Thanks for the compliments on our backsplash Laura and andreak100! It's the Opera Glass tile from Artistic Tile (Stilatto pattern) in Wolfgang White. It does read greenish-blue(-grey) in certain lights or times of day. We had to think about that one while deciding if we wanted to use it, and obviously decided to go for it! Good luck Laura! Yep, I'd say the backsplash is 'connected' to your cabinets, so usually would end with them. I have, though, seen it where people take it over to the trim, then run the tile all the way to the floor between the base cabinet and trim.

In our kitchen we considered the backsplash as an extension of the upper cabinets and ended it at the end of the uppers, using some black pencil tile as a border around the backsplash tile. We agonized over the detail, because we knew there would be a small section of wall showing in some places. I linked to our kitchen so you can see the compromises and decisions we made. I see the trouble you're having though since the upper to the left of the sink does not end up flush with the lower cabinet and anything you do is likely to accentuate that difference in cabinet width. I think you're on the right track with going to all the way to the door, in the other two areas, stopping in-line with the uppers looks fine, and the stainless border would finish things off nicely. I don't really know how to resolve the detail of the top of the tile overhanging near the door, you might want to try the stainless, or it might look better without. If you stop level with the uppers, looks like there would be enough clearance for the lightswitch. Otherwise, maybe you can change to a double-wide box in place of the current triple, align it to the right, and use a double switch in one of the sides? if the window lines up with the end of the counter, go just to the end of the counter. but are you going with tile all the way up to the ceiling? maybe you can attach a photo from further back so we can see the full wall? if you are going up to the ceiling, i would want to see the photo from further back to see what would be best.
