Please help with furniture placement...
Comments (6)liptonjl, you have a beautiful sofa and coffee table for starters. Your sofa accent is rather cute too! Personally I think I'd go for two chairs possibly in a british colonial style such as these. http://www.rdimports.com/Colonial_Chairs1/thumbnails/CHA547L.jpg http://www.britishcolonialimports.com/bc-chairs-c301-print.shtml http://www.floridadesign.com/web/issues/16_1/pr/treasure_coast/pages/Patrick%20Day%20D16-1T.htm I think something along the above line would work great with not only your current beautiful sofa, but the stacked stone fireplace too. If you could, I think a flat screen TV over the fireplace would work best. As for the WTs, if this room is maining for watching TV I'd think about covering the transoms also. It's going to be a very beautiful home! I bet you are very excited about it....See MoreLiving room furniture placement help please.
Comments (13)We have a similar issue in our family room. We have a bank of windows, a doorway that leads into our dining room and the space opposite the fireplace is open to our kitchen area. I am not a fan of TVs over the fireplace. I just don't think it looks good. We have windows on either side of our fireplace, so we really didn't have many options for TV placement. We moved to the home with the furniture (sectional and chair/ottoman) and we really didn't want to purchase new seating. I had a custom table made to run the length of the sectional and we had a sisal made to fill the entire space (which actually made the room appear larger) We just upgraded our TV from a 46 to 50 inch - we are considering a wider corner unit to better fill the space, but for now, it works. Could you still do the sectional, with the sofa table behind (as shown in your plan) and then have a chair (maybe swivel) in the corner (along the wall where the TV would be) -- similar to what we have in our room.......See MorePlease help with living room furniture placement
Comments (9)I appreciate your time Beverly. Yes, I agree no room for bookcases on that side of the room. Yes, 22' from armoire to corner window. Where do you suggest I place the couch and loveseat and perhaps move the armoire? Currently I feel the furniture is "bunched" up to one side of the room. One time I had the couch directly opposite of fireplace (between dining room) and loveseat in front of corner window. However, seating too far away for conversation. I am willing to move out the bookcase(s) and add console and/or side chairs. Open to suggestions,...See MorePlease help with furniture style and placements!
Comments (8)@Jennifer Hogan Thanks for the questions. Answers on them below... How often do they entertain? How many people do they entertain? ~ once a month: total 10 adults and a few kids (including my parents). Adults usually eat dinner at the dining table and a folding table is set up in the living room area for kids (plus maybe one or two adults at the kids table to feed them) 3~5 a month: total 4 ~ 6 adults (including my parents) When they entertain is it at the table or watching tv/movies or both? Usually with 4 ~ 6 adults, they sit at the dining table to drink coffee or eat dessert With 10+ people, men often sit at the sofa area and women sit at the dining table to chat. TV is often left on, but mostly for the kids. Do they have any issues with mobility or difficulty getting up from deep or low seating? Nope, no mobility issues. But generally they don't like deep sofas, just because we're not very tall (mom is 5'3"), and deep sofas are less comfortable at our height. Do they use both the dining table and the kitchen table? Mom uses the kitchen table for food prepping (because there's not enough counter space and the height is easier for some prep work) Only the dining table is used for dining, even when there's only two of them. Unless there's people visiting, the other half of the dining table is often cluttered with work stuff, especially now that they are working from home (papers, computer monitor, etc.) Is there a better use of space rather than having 2 eating spaces (you mention they use the dining table for work from home)? I think especially right now, it's difficult to reduce down to 1 table, because large chunk of the dining table is used for work so the large dining table is a necessity... and my mom probably doesn't want to do food prep work on the nice dining table....See MoreRL Relocation LLC
