Its all in how you pull on the pull. I find I don't wrap my fingers all the way around the pull and I don't slide my fingers even all the way through the pull. I just sort of slide my fingers through just far enough to get the drawer/cabinet to open. I just went in the kitchen and opened a few drawers. I tend to use 1 or 2 fingers to open the drawers and spice pullouts. And my fingers are pretty much on top of the pull more so than through the pull. And I don't use more than my fingertips to open them--looking down at my hand, the pull lines up on the underside of my finger(s) between the bottom of the nail and the 1st knuckle. So barely any of my finger(s) are involved at all.

Just realize that the stile will make storage less convenient. You can tell I don't use the big plates or bowls as much since I'm storing them behind the stile. I like exposed hinges too! To pass on one of my lessons learned on the inset cabinets...I'd confirm that the installer will scribe the cabinet to the wall. I had specified extended stiles with the expectation that my contractor would do that, but for some reason they didn't (or couldn't?), so there's scribe molding there. It's not a big deal in the scheme of things, and I'm certain no one other than me notices...still I would have preferred without.

Here in the States thistle is usually a difficult to eradicate weed but I have planted Sea Hollies in my garden which look like thistle but are a different plant. I have some silk thistle which I include on my Christmas tree in honor of the Scottish side of my family. My son married a Scottish lass and he and his groomsmen wore boutonnieres of thistle. DS wore a silk vest in the family tartan and the others wore the same pattern in cummerbunds. We ordered our silk tartans from the Scottish Weaver in North Carolina. Black Watch is a fairly popular weave so you'll be able to find a lot of different fabric choices from heavyweight wool to silk to cotton and even polyester. Maire
