Tiling over adobe brick fireplace

I have an adobe brick fireplace which I'd like to cover in an arabesque white tile. If you're familiar with adobe brick, you know that it has a lumpy texture. We've tiled bathrooms and backsplashes successfully, but the prep for the fireplace tiling has us stumped. Any advice? I'm also looking for a larger tile than the one I've come across so far ( Whisper White Arabesque 10-1/2 in. x 15-1/2 in. x 8 mm Glossy Ceramic Mesh-Mounted Mosaic Wall Tile) . Most of those I've seen are small and more appropriate for backsplashes. A source for a larger tile would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

Not a sacrilege to me [though I confess I hate to see painted hardwood, but bricks come out of a factory, aren't exactly unique and organic]. If it will enhance your enjoyment of your home, go for it... Just remember that travertine is showing signs of being this decade's version of '70s red brick.

very reasonable price. you cant equate footage rates from a standard floor to custom applications on verticle surfaces ... they are two different beasts and the latter takes alot more time. however, if you think its too much, get other quotes ... if you like his work and trust him, use him and pay him what he wants. Remember if u price it out to lowball it, you may not get the same craftsmanship you desire.

Pink would not be my choice but the FP looks fine to me if the pink works for you. I think the FP is nice but I like MCM FPs which really is what you have and I would just ang a large piece of art on the entry side and maybe a bench underneath . If tiling is your choice do not use those small tiles go 12 x24 for sure and realize you will no longer have the indent in the LR one so more art there too and maybe there a nice thick natural wood mantel that spans the whole width
