I don't like my tub tile! How can it be fixed?
Comments (16)Thanks everyone for the advice! Here is more information: The shower is finished. The main wall is the American Olean 2 x 4 glass tile. (Its called charcoal - www.lowes.com/pd_355357-74035-DG7124BJHC1P_4294730930%2B4294965034 ) The other walls are the floor tile which is a 12x24 beige color. It doesn't have any pizazz but it looks fine. Originally I was going to have some of the blue mosaic be part of the shower but had the idea nixed by both the tile stores saleslady and my contractor as being to busy.... I will take more pictures tomorrow evening after the painters have finished and post. Again, my original idea was to have this mosaic "Majestic Ocean 1x1" really shine on the vanity wall...I still could have it on the vanity wall but it would only show 2 inches on the sides and lower edge. The top would have about 10 inches show since the light fixtures would be mounted above the mirrors....See MoreMy partner treats me so bad , but I love him, how do I fix us?
Comments (7)We have a few addicts in our family. You probably know these things, but in case you don't... The first things drugs do is destroy a person's conscience. Right and wrong mean nothing to an addict--they only care about finding the money for their next fix. Addicts lie. MOST of the time. NO ONE can 'fix' an addict or their relationship with one. As long as you're trying to help him (paying for life's essentials, letting him get away with abusing you, etc), YOU are keeping him an addict. Most addicts really don't change. The few who do usually do so only after they've totally hit rock bottom. Helping him as you are, is keeping him from deciding to get the real help he needs. Look, as the others have said, YOU cannot fix this problem. All you really can do is save yourself. Get out. Take some time to heal, and find a real man, who truly loves you, and won't abuse you physically, verbally and financially. And just in case those words don't help you make up your mind--are you prepared to go to jail for this man? If the police find drugs in the car while YOU'RE driving it, YOU could be charged with the crime. And do you really believe this guy would step up and claim ownership of them to get you out of trouble? I doubt it. Whatever else you decide to do, please start squirrelling money away for the legal fees you no doubt will be paying sometime in the future, because one or the other of you will probably need to be bailed out and defended at some point...See MorePaint riddle... Comments (5)I actually agree with the painters on #'s 1,2 and 4....well, sort of. There is no reason to prime when changing colors. This is a very common misconception that homeowners have. The only time you may want to prime is if the new color is a deep red or some poor covering color. For something like that you may want to use a grey primer. Or, since Aura has arrived, you can just use that. Two coats of Aura will cover anything 95 percent of the time. The rule is primer doesn't cover and that's not its job. It's job is to seal and provide a good base for your topcoat. Primer actually can be more expensive than paint. I use primer sometimes that retails for $45 a gallon. There are plenty of paints out there that cost less than that. But, if you are using a high quality primer, it is likely that you are also using a high quality paint as well so most times the primer is cheaper. I never prime over patchwork. The reason is that it is a complete waste of time. If I am using a washable paint, then I can just use that washable paint as a primer. I see no reason to actually get out a seperate bucket, roller, grid, brush, etc because I can accomplish the same thing with my finish paint. The key is to put enough coats of paint over the porous patching compound so that it 'catches up' with the rest of the wall. If your paint is soaking into the patch and not soaking into the wall around it, then it will flash. I'm sure this is what your painters are missing. Most paints these days look fine with two full coats over everything to avoid flashing. Now, if you are using a flat paint as your finish, spot priming patches is the absolute last thing you want to do. Again, primer seals so if you spot prime a patch, the wall will be sealed there so that when you come along with your topcoat, the paint will not soak in over that sealed spot like it does on the rest of the wall so you will get a flash. As for your painters, I believe that you should go to great lengths as any type of contractor to please your customer so they are certainly failing there. I also believe it is our job to educate the customer so that they know what we are doing is the correct procedure. We should supply our own tape and we should know that good paint cannot be bought at Home Depot or Lowes. I honestly think that ANY washable coating usually looks splotchy after one coat so that is normal and patches are usually still flashy after one coat. That second coat should even everything out. This is really why most real pro painters bid everything for two coats...it's pretty much an industry standard....See MoreHELP! How do I re-do this family room totally?
Comments (13)For your two chairs, I highly recommend Bradington-Young's Marietta swivel glider tub chairs. I did their customer's own material option but they do have lots of fabric and leathers to choose from. I ordered the chairs from a local furniture store that carries that brand. Everyone that sits in the chairs loves them. My husband is tall and above average in size and thinks the chairs are the most comfortable ones in the house. The chairs have a smaller profile look but they are plenty roomy. I was so happy to see that when Bradington-Young made my chairs that they did a perfect job on pattern matching the fabric. The chairs were a bit expensive but well worth it in my opinion Here they are...See MorePaul F.
