It's funny that often faux products are more popular than originals.

I just read the discussion about gas versus wood-burning fireplaces and was struck with how popular faux products have become. I am talking quality ones here. I think about LVP and real wood floors. Gas or even electric and wood-burning fireplaces. Concrete/fiberglass outdoor planters and real cement ones. Faux and real Christmas trees as well as glass versus nonbreakable ornaments. And more.

There are valid reasons for selecting the faux versions. I'd love wood floors myself but have LVP due to the cats and the fact that I don't want to spend time on the wood maintenance. Same for the Christmas tree. And if I put in a fireplace--which I wouldn't because I really don't like their look--it would definitely be gas; there is no way I'd deal with the price of wood, dirty wood piles and the creatures that like to inhabit them, what fires do to the environment, or cleaning out ashes plus the messy look of soot-laden fireplace interiors. (I am also not a fan of brick.)

In other words, real versus faux. What do you choose for what, and why?
