Visiting San Francisco for the first time
Comments (13)You can rent bicycles at Stow Lake inside GG Park: San Francisco- Golden Gate Park 50 Stow Lake Drive Next to the Boat House San Francisco, CA 94118 (415) 668-6699 (805) 688-0091 And it's too early for tulips, I'm afraid, so don't worry about going to the windmill at the west end of the park. You didn't mention where you are staying in the city. If in the downtown or financial district: You can get a spectacular view of SF and the Bay by going to the Bank of America headquarters in downtown SF, 555 California St. @ Kearny, and having a drink after 3pm at the Bankers Club on the top floor (it's a private club during lunchtime). It shares space with the Carnelian Room restaurant (adequate food but not exciting). Sit facing northeast and the view will literally take your breath away. Big comfortable plush chairs around marble-topped tables. People fight for the tables nearest the windows so it's worth getting there early before 5p. Go only if the weather is clear, however! Rather than staying around at the Carnelian Room for food, there are better, really excellent restaurants around that area for dinner as well (but make reservations WELL in advance, like 2-3 weeks minimum). Boulevard, Slanted Door (Vietnamese), Ame, Jeanty @Jack's, and Aqua all cost $$$ but are fabulous dining experiences. If you are staying in the downtown area and need any recommendations on breakfast or lunch places that won't bust the budget, you can email me. I recently posted some stuff on the "other" gardening forum that we aren't allowed to mention, where they also have a travel/vacation forum and were looking for member recommendations. I'm an exec. assistant who worked in downtown SF for decades, so eating out is not only a passion but was part of my duties to make good recommendations!...See MoreSpeaking of visits to the vet....
Comments (20)I'm sorry for your loss of Ellie, Stacy. A good friend just got another cat this week after the loss of their cat last fall. Take your time, do it when you are ready. It doesn't really matter when that time is. My cat, Rocket, had lost 3 lbs. between yearly visits to the vet and she was concerned so she wanted to see him in 3 months to see if it was continuing to start looking for a cause. Well, I had been changing foods on him and I guess he just wasn't eating as much. I put him on Nutro Natural Choice Grain Free Duck and Potato and he gained 2 of those pounds back in the 3 months. He also gets just a bit of canned Nutro minced chicken. Rocket is 13 and doing very well. A little 3.2 oz. can will easily last 2 days or more. I just give him a little maybe twice a day or so. He always has dry food, but never clears his little bowl in one day. Now Fred, the schnauzer is a different story. He had bladder crystals almost two years ago and had to have surgery. After that the vet put him on U/D food and he actually gained weight. When I looked into the calorie count, his old food had been 300 calories a serving and that same serving size in the U/D was 400 calories!!! I felt bad about giving him less volume, so I started adding green beans to the smaller amount of the U/D. They are a great very low calorie filler and he loves them. He lost the extra weight pretty quickly. All the animals are at a good weight now. I try very, very hard not to give them people food. They usually are ok with that, although sometimes they just sit and look at me with those big brown eyes. :)...See MoreShould i be embarrassed? My dog needs to go to vet but smells horribly
Comments (44)If it will be a month before treatment begins, sign up for an obedience class so you can learn how to have more control of him, plus it will be a bonding experience for both of you. You probably have trouble teaching him anything now simply because he is outside most of the time and none of the training is positive and repetitive. Contact your town Recreation Dept to see if they offer Dog Obedience, or some of the larger pet stores offer it. Google 'Dog Obedience Classes' for your area and several will most likely pop up. Personally, I prefer classes that are outdoors simply because it's the environment you would be walking him in, more distractions for the dog to get used to and definitely not as cramped as pet store aisles! Also, for chewing treats for large dogs, go to the meat dept of your grocer and ask for large bones, or knuckle bones. It'll keep him occupied for hours....See MoreThere is nothing more frustrating than...
Comments (90)After reading (a good portion of) this, I've decided that I do not experience much in the way of frustration. I would add, however, that I am unable not to pay attention to what anyone is saying, almost anywhere, and I do dislike listening in to boring conversations, but I have a hard time turning them off. My mother (and brother) were very adept at tuning out conversations (especially my father's), but I do not have that skill. It used to bother me on public transportation in San Francisco that people would be having conversations in languages that I did not understand, and sometimes I would worry that they were talking about me, but I can understand Spanish well enough now to know what they are saying. I still do not understand Chinese or Tagalog. I was able to overhear conversations that German tourists were having in Mexico, and they definitely were complaining about my companion and me - for looking into a grave in Monte Albán without paying for the tour that they had paid for. The tour guide did tell them that everyone was allowed to look into the graves, however....See Moreseagrass_gw Cape Cod
