Chandelier Sizing for Master Bath

I love the idea of a crystal chandelier in our master bathroom, but I am concerned about the proper sizing. I don't want the light to be too overwhelming, but also don't want it to appear to small. My bathroom size is 19’2”x12’10” (ceiling height 9') which technically could handle a 32" light. But, the bathroom is not a complete rectangle as there is a bay window and an enclosed toilet area. When I remove these, I feel it brings me closer to a 28" light. The door into the bathroom is 28" wide. The light I have selected is 28" diameter and the height can be adjusted to height of 16"+. Do you feel this is the right size for the space?

I do not like that fixture but if you love it use it. Put it an a dimmer if too much light is an issue . IMO bathrooms and kitchens are like operating rooms they need all the light they can get for makeup for sure in the bathroom I like candles if I want romantic in my bathroom . The tolet room needs proper lihhting . so does the shower and the vanity . What are the other choices in the bathroom ?IMO those are what drives the choice for the chandelier. What I do not like about that light is it throws weird shadows when lit and for sure not ideal in a bathroom

Lighting-Can lights in the shower tub area. The cabinet area will have wall sconces on each side of two mirrors (black with white shades, but not finalized yet).

There will also be a wall mounted LED Make-Up mirror.

Wall Colors - Light Gray.

Tile Floor/Shower - Porcelain Marble look (cool white with grey veining).

Cabinet colors - Med/Dark Gray with Antique Brass/black handles.

Fixtures - Matte Black

We have a 45 inch vanity that comes with a standard 48 x 42 size mirror. So your mirror is wider than your vanity? Consider turning your mirror vertically for a special look.

The vanities are opposite each other in the master bath. The larger one is 8.5 feet from linen cabinet to wall and the other is 6 feet from shower knee wall to wall. Don't know if this is enough info but all I have at the time. Thanks for any input.

Do you have another bathtub in the house...for bathing kids? Unless you or your spouse enjoy baths...maybe eliminate the tub in the MBA? I am glad I have a linen closet in my MBA. I agree with eliminating the reach-in closets and adding windows. Also think about how you dress; a walk-in closet can hold all the things people used to store in dressers. (You really don't *need* a window in a closet, although Mark gave it one.) I agree with him about losing the (dated) double doors -- and creating an entry, rather than plopping right into the living room. If you'll eat at the kitchen island a lot, consider seating that's not all-in-a-row. It makes conversation difficult.

We will definitely put a dimmer switch on any chandelier that we chose. Looking for sparkle even when it is not on and we have a ton of natural light from our bay window.

A handy rule of thumb is that a chandelier should have at least 48 inches of space from each of the room walls or edges.

Location is critical for your install. When we remodeled our master bath, I asked the contractor about a chandelier over the bathtub and was told our ceiling was too low. The US National Electrical Code prohibits installing a hanging ceiling light fixture within 3' horizontally of a tub unless there is 8' or more in clearance from the bottom of the light fixture to the top of the tub. Prohibited hanging fixtures that fall inside this area include: Track lighting. Chandeliers. If you can make it work, definitely go for it. A touch of luxury will add to the joy of your bathroom.

I have remodeled/built two master baths and I like a chandelier also, more for the decorative aspect, although they do provide good general lighting. I agree with Patricia that the one you're considering will cast weird light, but if you're interested in it more as a piece of art then that won't matter. It seems like an odd choice given how you describe the sconces you're considering, but without seeing a picture of them I can't be sure whether the two go together or not. I think 28" is plenty big enough. I would put a recessed fixture over the tub and in front of the linen closet.

Get a smaller one and center it over the tub instead of the center of the bathroom. But check the codes in your local area. Sometimes hanging a fixture over a tub is not allowed.

I love the idea of a chandelier over the tub, but unfortunately, we do not have enough space above the tub to hang it there based on code.

@User that's obviously not true based on the photos I posted. It's true it's not allowed in some municipalities but that's why I suggested she check her local codes.

Here is a mock-up of the space. I have made a few changes to the original plans based on some great ideas I got from designers already on Houzz (thank you!!). You may not be able to see my comments, but there will not be two different sconces on the cabinet view. These are just two I am considering. Also, the chandelier won't be over the tub, but about 4+ feet in front of it. This was the only way to show it in the mock up. I was originally going with black hardware on the cabinets since the faucets are black, but I felt that they got lost on the dark grey.
