My name is Andy and have been fabricating solid surface in Southern California for 25 years. Solid surface will burn if a hot curling iron is placed directly on the material and left for a period of time. That said, we as fabricators don't have many calls about a burned Corian countertop in the bathroom. Nail polish remover with Acetone will technically make a mark on the Corian if left long enough. If you spill and wipe off there will be no effect. We actually use acetone to clean parts before gluing together in the shop. Corian is not effected by contact, but by prolonged, continuous contact. I've got a different take, but be forewarned, I do NOT have any problem with dated finishes, IF they are in good condition. While I don't care for your wall color, the rest of the bathroom looks very nice in a late 80's - early 90's style. 1. Since your entire house has beautiful oak trim, I definitely would NOT paint the trim and doors. If the vanity wood, doors and drawers are in good shape, I would also not paint them. I'm in the Chicago area and the experience is similar here - painted trim is typically used to hide (cheaper) pine (or now even cheaper MDF), while oak is left stained. Change the vanity hardware; you'll have to be careful about the footprint of new hardware. If it's smaller than the old, it might reveal a ring of different colored wood. You could, if the vanity is not in great shape, paint the vanity only. There's no concrete rule that says every scrap of wood in a home has to be the exact same finish. There is also the option of cabinet refacing, if the vanity is structurally sound but the finish is bad. 2. Change the countertop, sink, faucet and light fixture. I'd use a Corian type surface for the counter. Your daughters would not have to worry about being extra careful with the counter. 3. Since you have no intention of selling at this point, do what YOU like. Pick the counter and floor to complement each other. Then pick wall paint to match; it can easily be changed. 4. Because of the large light, consider installing a dimmer. Pick a style where the dimming and on/off functionality are separated in the same switch (many styles available). That way, you can dim it to medium, leave it there and then just turn it on and off. When you need the brighter light, you'll have it. I think I'm the second person to respond who actually has Corian. We put it in every room in our remodel. And after about 1.5 yrs, we still are thrilled with it. Our home is very contemporary and the seamless sink in the kitchen is at home. I also love the feel of running my hand across the counter and I like that it isn't cold. Witch Hazel seems to be extraordinarily popular with some people and I don't recall anyone who put it in who had buyers remorse. Now Quartz is really nice too. It was going to be my first choice until we started looking at solid surface. I had been eyeing a quartz countertop for years waiting for the next time we moved--way back when granite was at its zenith (which our house came with) and quartz was hard to find. Now that granite has declined and quartz is all the rage, I'm glad I did Corian even more. I realize the quartz is nice, but it's not terribly special. Where I live, almost every single house that is new or re-done and put up for sale has white quartz counters. It's in every single episode of HGTV. White Quartz seems to me to be the 2010s version of the 2000s Beige Granite--everywhere. I just like being slightly different than the masses :) The last poster correctly notes that her granite is is "not understated"--definitely never been a term used to describe loud shiny sparkly granite tops. Corian is classically understated. Now for my next house--Lord willing that won't be for a long time--Neolith is my current fascination :)

@saracurr I don’t think it will clash. I remember reading that it was cool toned on their website and being concerned it would be stark and cold. It is neither. It sometimes reads white and sometimes a little grayer, but it blends nicely with the pure white and looks fine with my warm wood floor. I also have a wood island and I think it looks good with it too. I would not call the veining taupe. It is gray. It really is a beautiful quartz!
