Furniture Design Dilemma Bedroom

Dresser Size Across from King Bed??

Hello! I'm hoping someone can help me out with a design question. We have space for a dresser directly across from our king size bed, but I'm worried that the scale of the dresser will be off. The long dressers I've seen are at most 72" long, with very few options longer than 80" long. Will it look off scale to have a dresser than is shorter in length than my bed? For reference, a rough hand-drawn layout of my bedroom is below. I'm not sure what to do with the space directly across from the bed if we go a different route, but open to suggestions!

I can't read the measurements but why do you need a dresser ther at all. Mabe a nice long console with a great oversized piece of art above instead. It does not look like you have much space there maybe just the art. I need to see the space and also those measurements since the drawing is not to scale . Do you have walk in closet ? If some IMO you do not need dressers . If you insist do 2 .

I was worried the measurements wouldn’t show up on that photo. The room is roughly 13x20, and the bed is right in the middle in between two windows. We do need some drawers in the actual room. I am thinking of getting nightstands that are actually small 3-drawer dressers since we have the room, but we probably need at least one other piece with some storage. I hadn’t thought of just a console across from the bed….that might be nice! I’m not sure what else to do with that space and where I would put the other piece of furniture if I did that.

Our bedroom is 14x15 and we have a king bed, two wide nightstands and a long, low bank of dressers along one wall. And a two side chairs. And there's still plenty of room to walk around. I use 3D Home Architect 3.0 (out of print but available on ebay--later versions are bad) to see if furniture will fit into a room. It's probably more than you want to get into, but there are free programs available online, I think. These programs let you draw your room with windows and doors and then select furniture to drop into the room and move around. They're fun and very, very useful! Most of them also have a 3D walk-through feature.

If you have the room for it King is always better! But just keep in mind its always harder to downsize once you’re used to it. we upgraded from Queen to King when I was pregnant with my second kid.. i was already feeling cramped with one kid kicking me.. fast forward to now Ive separated/divorced and I let ex hubby keep King bed but i got myself a Cal King out of wanting to keep the space i was used to and my littlest still bed sharing… my current home has small bedrooms and i am now considering downgrading to a queen to have more room in my master bedroom, but i dont want to give up all the room.. wish i didnt get used to it now, because my bed takes up most of the room 😭

I'm also a two king pillows with cases and two king pillows with shams user. Everything is white cotton or white matelasse, with a solid yellow quilt folded across the bottom. Our walls are yellow and the bed is against the wall. We have no headboard or footboard. Kitty cat sleeps on the yellow quilt every night. I also relate to your disappointment! I literally cried when my bed was delivered and set up, and called my sister on the phone I was so beside myself! I thought it looked so big and awkward and awful. I concluded I'd made one big honkin' mistake, and couldn't imagine *how* I could make such a thing actually look attractive. A little over six years later now, and I regard our king-sized bed as one of the best purchases we've ever made! Within a few months of living with it and adjusting my eye to it, I loved it, both in terms of how it looked in the room and how it functioned as a wonderful, dreamy place to sleep! tv placement - centered on wall or across from the bed?

This is easy - where will you be viewing TV from most of the time? If you are adding more seating (you have only one chair) then you may need to consider another position but if viewing from your bed - yes, straight in front of it, centered. Be sure however, that you frame in the TV on that wall in some creative way. As a designer, I always make sure you do not see the TV setting against a bare wall. No matter how you hide the cords, they are viewable and unsightly when you enter the room (as drawn on your floor plan). Good luck!

Measure the room, draw the room , boldly ACCURATELY, and post a couple pictures as well .........Don't forget window and door dimensions.

It's not a problem to have a dresser across from your bed that isn't the same width as the bed. I have a 66" dresser across from my king and it doesn't look wrong. It doesn't look like you have space for one on another wall, so this seems like the right answer for you.

If the space is 156" from wall to wall in front of bed you can doo a dresser but IMO needs to be quite shallow since I think in a room that size the walkway shoulld be nice and wide . Meayre how long the bed is including the headboard, foot board since thta tells us how much space you have left . I think the idea of the night tables with darwers would be a nicer choice

Why wouldn't you put a dresser if you have room for it? (Unless you live in a mansion with endless storage and a huge dressing room?) . I have a 56" dresser across from my king and it looks great. The dresser is flanked by windows with nice views. If you get a smaller dresser and it ends up not feeling right to you, just put a chair or tall basket, painting, or plant next to it. The dresser + an item 12" or wider will make the dresser area feel more the width of your bed.

If you plan to add a tv ( as many people seem to do) then a dresser or console like dresser maybe the way to go.

Maybe you should put two dressers? Taller ones with a bench inbetween.

@Lorraine Leroux @Momof5x @Kendrah @Patricia Colwell Consulting @JAN MOYER Thanks everyone! We have the Ella bed from Room & Board, which has a small “bumper” all the way around. The dimensions of the bed are:

Overall: 82"w 89"d 46"h
Headboard Height: 46"h
Footboard Height: 13"h

We currently have a hodgepodge of tall dressers along the wall in question - a collection from our years of city dwelling before we bought a house. Below are some pictures of the space (please ignore the mess!). The only piece we are committed to keeping is the bed. We do have a TV, which we eventually plan on mounting to the wall, so it would make sense for us to have some piece of furniture anchoring it to the space in some way.
