How bog a bedroom is big enough for a king size bed..
Comments (9)Our bedroom is 14x15 and we have a king bed, two wide nightstands and a long, low bank of dressers along one wall. And a two side chairs. And there's still plenty of room to walk around. I use 3D Home Architect 3.0 (out of print but available on ebay--later versions are bad) to see if furniture will fit into a room. It's probably more than you want to get into, but there are free programs available online, I think. These programs let you draw your room with windows and doors and then select furniture to drop into the room and move around. They're fun and very, very useful! Most of them also have a 3D walk-through feature....See MoreI give up! How do YOU make baked potaotes
Comments (37)If DH is here, medium russetts, scrubbed and placed on middle rack of oven at 400 for 40 minutes. He likes the crunchy skins. If it's just me (I like softer skins), same potatoes, same length of time, but wrapped in foil. Never had an explosion when cooking them in the oven, so never poked holes in them. Cook them hot enough and they are not "mushy". THen I do with the foil-wrapped ones what we used to do at one of the restaurants, pick it up and slam it on the counter, cut a slit in it and sort of press the ends toward each other to make a "mouth" for the butter and lots of black pepper. I used to microwave them because I felt bad heating an oven for just a couple potatoes. They're ok. But when I got my toaster oven I went back to baking them. Man, I didn't realize there was such a big difference! I always bake them now. But if I miscalculate the timing, I don't mind putting them in the nuker for a minute or two to finish them off....See MoreHow do I alter a fitted king size sheet down to a queen size?
Comments (13)I know this is a response to a very old post. But Chromatic, if I understand this method correctly (pix would have helped on this site!) they suggest a seam down the center of the sheet. Pretty easy peasy. However, I think that would be a little unstable. During sleep, moving around may put too much stress on that stitched seam down the middle. I still think the best option would be to alter the corners. And I would also flat fell or enclose the corner seam again. Maybe that is the perfection seam"stress" (there may be a reason the word "stress" is at the end of seam in that word!) in me, but I think it is the better and more stable route. Now, the only other way I would do that middle seam option, is this. Follow steps 1 through 4 from the "King to Queen fitted sheet" site you recommend.(Make sure to pin your middle seam with just a little "give" or ease so it is not so tight it rips during sleep.) Now, after you sew the seam, don't cut it, but rather lay the excess fabric down onto the sewing line so you have the excess fabric spread equally on both sides. Like one big pleat. Pin in place and THEN sew a topstitch line down each side of the big pleat along the edge. And you are done. This will reinforce and protect that original middle seam. NO CUTTING involved! That is what I would do. Rosie...See Morehow do make 4 yds of fabric into a King size coverlet?
Comments (4)You really need to match the pattern. It will look very funny if you don't. You need to figure out the match of the pattern (in length) to have a center panel and then take and split the other panel down the center and put on each side of the center panel matching the pattern. Then make a border (same width) all the way around it. You will need to trim the center piece to make the board equal all the way around. I think you will be more pleased with this look. By doing it this way you are framing the print in the center of the coverlet and making it the focal point of the bed. You may be able to use what is left over of the print to use as a piping along the edge of the coverlet or some where else. Hope this helps. Bonnie...See Morechibimimi
