My fireplace mantle needs your help. Picture
Comments (12)I'm loving all your ideas. Keep them coming! Eventually we could add a cap to the fireplace mantle (we have to finish our upstairs bathroom and library first). LOL! My chorus. Yes, it *is*. I hate the fake plants too and I just took them off. Copper trays and pottery. I'll go digging. Les, the sign used to travel back and forth between my BIL and us. Every time he needed money, he'd let us have the sign until he paid us back. Last time (many years ago) he decided he just wanted us to keep it. Well, there are two signs. One is in our bedroom and it's really nice too. The fireplace had a mirror when we moved here but we took it down. It's upstairs in a large closet now. Maybe that was a mistake. LOL! Maybe I should drop the sign down closer to the fireplace? Our ceilings are high, I think 11' but the fireplace is huge. So is the sign. Making the sign a theme for the fireplace? Interesting idea. As far as moving the sign, the problem is there are no other walls big enough and my DH loves it. Maybe when the wallpaper is gone, it may fit better. If I did a box in the center, it would have to be a pretty big box or it will disappear, don't you think? (Think 8' wide. That is what the mantle measures.) I just left my post to fix my mantle and now my entire living room is destroyed. My mantle looks no better yet but the fake plants are gone. LOL! I'm moving around stuff....See MoreHelp Me Pick a Wall Color for My New Fireplace Surround!
Comments (10)island - Yes, we can paint the surround (we've been told). I'd like to live with it as is for awhile though. I do like the color...except for the darn pinkish tone that comes out in certain lighting! It was recommended to paint before installing the surround; maybe we'll just paint the fireplace wall to see if we like it before doing the rest of the room. Our leak caused water damage inside, and our repair turned into redecorating. At least we'll have a new family room when all is done!...See MoreFireplace/Mantle Decor Help!
Comments (4)How deep is the area above the cabinetry? My first thought is to add plants, either on the mantel or on top of the cabinetry or both. For instance, put a trailing, leafy plant on one side of your mantel. You could lean art or canvases in layers on top of the cabinetry. Or hang a pair of paintings or photographs symmetrically -- one on each side wall. You could place a globe on one side as an accessory. And perhaps a lantern? Hope that helps!...See MoreHelp me decorate my fireplace accent wall
Comments (4)Not a pro, but here are my thoughts... I think your mantle is cluttered, I'd clear the small items and replace w/ a few, more substantial objects (a plant, a vase, large candle sticks, something seasonal, etc). The pic above the fireplace is pretty - but the dimensions seem off as it's nearly the same width as the fireplace, I wonder if it would look better 6-8 inches above sofa? The black picture frames are pretty, but they might be too high, double check they're at the right height - the middle of the art should be 57-60 inches off the ground. Maybe it's just the angle of the pic - but I'd center the sofa (facing the fireplace) and the rug with the fireplace. It's a real pretty space, clean & cozy :-)...See MoreRL Relocation LLC
