I bought some gold wire frame aviator Ray Bans and had them pop out the sunglass lenses and had prescription progressive lenses put in. Love the look and the big lenses are good for me for progressives.

I have a narrow face. nit easy finding frames.

Kate Spade 'So Happy to See You', which are now discontinued. I got them at a local optician 3 years ago after my cataract surgery and love them so much that I immediately went online and ordered two more (for much less than what the optician charged!), one of which I had the optician make into sunglasses and the other waits in case I need a new prescription at some point.

ded, can I ask which store those are from? My husband needs new glasses and he really dislikes the guy at the store where I always get mine, so we're looking around for another place.

Thankfully since I had cataract surgery a few years ago, all I have now are eight reading glasses from Target in various colors to match my outfit. But when I did wear glasses my last pair were 100-year-old sterling silver round glasses which I loved. They were rather delicate but matched my hair . I have a narrow face and have always worn John Lennon-type glasses. My next to last pair were darling but hardly practical. They were French, round, and less than a silver dollar in size. I got compliments almost everywhere I went but my peripheral vision was almost nonexistent. Glad to not wear any now.

I also looked at Huffirds and my favorite frame there is the Kate Spade So Happy to See You! I may end up with those, so we will be twins.

I mostly wear contacts, but especially as I’ve gotten older, I seem to be wearing glasses more often. These are the ones I got a few months ago. I like them because they kinda blend in with my skin.

I have a second pair that is almost exactly the same shape, but in a blue color.

I've been buying from Zenni for awhile now. The prices are so amazingly low, one could conceivably have a pair for every day of the week.

I've had these Lafont frames for years. They were expensive so I've had them refilled many times and have gotten my money's worth. I also have a narrow face and haven't been able to find anything that suits me as well.

IlikefridayIlike Friday, that is hilarious. My good friend has frames that have eyelashes on them. If my lenses werent so darn expensive, id get lots of frames, too .

I also think that I look best in a smaller frame, more of a rounded rectangle or pillow shape. I don't like cat eye, or the taller lenses - I too have the undereye circles!

I just ordered these Coach frames, Coach 6174 in the 'Milky Purple' . I loved the 'Transparent Pink Floral' design too, but they have bits of golden highlights that were too much with my skin tone. Still trying to get my Medicare Advantage insurance to agree to reimburse me since I ordered them out of network. (If I ordered them in network, I would have had to pay over $100 more out of pocket!! if they reimburse me with the promised benefit, I will be $25 out of pocket,)

I had cataract surgery in October with lens implants. No more glasses. I used to go to Warby Parker, but before the surgery was thinking of trying elsewhere. I only wore prescription lenses for a few years. So happy to not need them anymore. I do keep reaching up to pull them down from atop my head and then remember I no longer need them. Makes me feel stupid. Just habit. Too funny.

Ded, good for you in re the Calvin Kleins. I won't buy anything with a name on it. Unless, of course, they want to pay me for advertising for them.

cyn427, you don't need glasses at all? Did you get multifocal lens implants?

LaFont frames usually fit my face very well. I have a very narrow bridge and a narrow face and cannot wear just any old frame. I also do not like a floating nose piece. The assistant at my eye doctor really knows frames and how to fit them and has always helped me.

Bunny, Warby Parker has a lot of their frames available in narrow.

got my last pair from Warby. No complaints for 7 months now. Fast too. about a week. I take a medium frame.

gsciencechick, thanks, yes, they do. I got some Percey sunglasses from them. It's not a shape I'd get if they weren't dark, but they're fine. The only thing I don't like about them is, because they don't wrap at all, I get some reflection from the side that bounces back from the inside of the lenses.

I read in my local paper that Warby Parker is opening a store early this year in my town.

Timely post.. I need to get new glasses and Ive been putting it off because it is always an ordeal. I have such a tricky (and expensive) prescription and it takes time to get it right. I use a digital lab and varilux lenses that can handle the multiple curves in my prescription and greatly improve the vertigo/off balance feelings I can get. My lenses are very expensive but the varilux lenses with progressive "zones" (customized to my needs) make a huge difference in my quality of life!

I most like tortoise shell frames but I also like a design that is just a little unusual. Here's what I am wearing now ...

Tiffany Frame (now discontinued) for general walking around - custom progressive optimized for "office" but also works very well in my home and general goings about. I love this frame and have reused it through multiple prescriptions...but I think it's time for a change.

I also love eyeglasses as a fashion statement and I figure, hey, I have to wear them, might as well have fun with them. My every day glasses (top) are by Sabine B, Transition lens and sunglasses both by Anne & Valentin. I am hard on stuff and when I first started wearing glasses in my early 50’s, I bought, and wrecked, several cheap pairs, and they never felt comfortable. By chance I found a great, woman owned business in the city an hour from us, and got my first pair of Anne & Valentin, which I wore the hell out of for 4 years, and which now live on my bedside table as my “just in case” upstairs glasses.

Bookwoman, yes, I did get the multifocal lenses. Back to 20/20. I could not be more pleased. DH is planning to get his done in spring.

I got my last pair of glasses from Warby Parker. I have no-lines tri-focals. The WP lenses simply did not work. When I took them to an optician for review, he discovered that one of the areas was about 1/2 the height it ought to be. I had to have new lenses made by the optician. I will buy WP frames again, but never again will I buy lenses from them. btw, I went into a WP store to have the lenses fitted. It wasn’t done online.

Bbstx, that’s what my eye doctor told me.. My prescription is complicated because of astigmatism and bifocals, so i need an experienced optician to set the lenses correctly. On the other hand, WP made my sunglasses and they are fine. I also went to an actual store.

I like WP frames but other opticians are not happy to make lenses for them since they make a lot of their money by selling frames.

Dedtired, about those C.Klein frames you loved -- I had a frame that was a good fit, and the color I wanted, but had silver metal "bling" on the corners that I did not like. I painted over that with nail polish that matched the frame. Worked perfectly and never wore off!

Do you think that would work for you?

Raee, I am hard on my glasses and I’m sure I would chip them. If they were less expensive, I would be tempted to try.

We got new glasses in the summer. Mine are crystal clear with Tortoise shell temples. Brand is Panama Jack.

Another vote for Warby Parker, my husband loves them. He wears his glasses all day every day, and his first pair held up great for over two years (they're still good but he just got bored). He's well into his second pair now with no problems. This is a guy who used to only buy expensive frames. If there are fitting issues and you don't have a WP store in your town, you can get your optometrist to shape them. They can also help you measure the distance of your pupils-- essential to center your Rx in the lenses.

I don't think those virtual try-on services are accurate enough. They'll help you narrow it down, but it's not a replacement for trying on IRL. With at home try-on services you can view yourself in different lighting situations and take a long time thinking about it. There are other brands doing this now, but I have yet to try them. (My favorite was Fetch, but sadly they closed.)

I need glasses just for reading, but instead of carrying them with me, or not having them when I need them, I wear them all the time, with progressive lens.

My prescription hasn't changed in the last 4 years so I buy new frames periodically. My latest ones I bought summer have transition lenses that darken automatically. That way I can wear my glasses all the time instead of switching from sunglasses to eyeglasses when I go into a store. $800 later.....

I have gotten my glasses at the same optician's store for years. I have fair skin, gray hair and I like glasses that have some color and pizzazz to them, since I don't wear eye makeup. I think of the glasses as my makeup! The ones I have now are so wonderful that I have had people come up to me to ask where I got them. When the elderly school crossing guard tells you that you look amazing, you just know you do.

They've opened a Warby Parker in our mall, but I think that they don't do bifocals? And I am not sure about adjustments. My optician seems to offer lifetime coverage for that. When I hit the lottery, I will have a whole wardrobe of glasses. maybe a whole closetful. But the last pair cost upwards of $900, so I will make them last. They are on my nose from morning until bedtime, so I have to love them a lot. And I wish I had vision care insurance, but that's another story.

Faftris, Warby Parker does do bifocals. They did my sunglasses with graduated bifocal lenses and they are fine. Even though my eye doctor recommended going to a more experienced optician I am tempted to try WP again. It would not be a huge loss if they don't work out.

I would not get bifocals through their online site but if there is a store nearby, they might be worth a try.

Just a follow-up here... my college kids needed new glasses. While they were home over break, they got on the Zenni site, used the camera to take their photos, then virtually tried on frames. It was really helpful (they weren't particularly impressed, but I'm always like, "This technology! If I had had this at your age...").

Even if you don't buy from Zenni, the try-on option is fairly easy and can help identify sizes, styles, shapes, etc. that work on your face.
