Remodeling Design Dilemma Kitchens

Help me choose a backsplash!!!

Hello all! After many many many months of kitchen remodeling I am delighted to have my countertops installed! I absolutely love my new silestone eternal statuario quartz, and it looks beautiful with my rustic modern farmhouse look. I am now trying to decide on a backsplash tile.

I feel very torn-I'm absolutely in love with the white amagansett subway tile, or tile bar's montauk gin tile. I just find it so unique and organic, and think it would be an interesting texture in my kitchen to go with all the other natural elements. I had previously been considering white boutique ceramic subway tile, which also has a unique shape but a little more neutral. My husband prefers this tile and thinks that the amagansett/montauk gin tile looks like something our kid would bring home from a paint your own pottery studio...sigh.

I feel very torn, is there anyone who has done the amagansett subway tile and had a fear of the sheen being too much? I really just love that tile but don't want to regret it. Perhaps just doing something more neutral is the way to go? Pictures below of my kitchen, and then some of the inspiration photos I've looked at.

Your inspirations look great. I would suggest that the grout be a close match to the tile. Irregular shaped tile have irregular grout lines.

the wood trim on hood/ the floor / the island top/ all present a nice horizontal grain...good picks.... I would stay with the subway shape to mimic horizontal . there are various dimensions available...longer and skinnier or standard. I dont care for the square tile in your space as I like the wood grain you've introduced and keep that longer shape to the tile. Have you considered a color. I would think about it. Color is the one thing missing. You created a little texture w the wood in areas ..... and contrast between light and dark with uppers and lowers and counter .....but no color....you dont have to go wild and crazy but have a look. here's a green..but if you really dont want color another option shown [with longer tile pieces ] is pattern with neutral beiges/creams and whites....very nice.... you can [ find bigger tile pieces than those] to tweak it.

For those of you who think it is criminal and stupid to change the look of these cabinets, I should also tell you that they have a green glaze on them. Yes, a hunter green glaze in the detail of every door and drawer. You can't see it in the pictures. Orange cabinets with green glaze and green countertops aren't my thing. They were also done about 15 years ago, and they look that age to me, style wise. Is there really nobody that thinks this kitchen would look good in white? We are in our early 30s and want a current look. In Chicago where we live, the older neighborhoods with newly remodeled kitchens are getting the white look. I don't care about being ahead of the curve. I love the current trend and would like to implement it. Thanks for the suggestions regarding the backsplash, I got some samples and agree that the honed looks better than the polished marble. I am probably going to go that route. I also agree that a light green subway tile would be nice if I wanted to embrace a green kitchen, but I don't. I'm in love with white kitchens. If it were in the budget, I would be changing out these green countertops. Someone mentioned that I wouldn't be able to save the backsplash if I later change out the countertops. Is that true, or would it just need some repair on the lower tiles? Also, FYI, whenever guests come over, everyone loves the ceiling as is. Nobody has ever complemented the cabinets.

Flemish bond is great for a floor or patio, not for a backsplash. Both SW 6155 Rice Grain (bottom) and SW 6154 Nacre (top) are yellows, although Nacre is classed as a pastel shade, so the tile color you're looking for is a cream that pairs well with your stone which is largely brown - shouldn't be hard to find. The tile below is Fireclay Tile in Ivory but you can approximate this glaze in almost any other tile. If you have the budget for it, consider a pretty shape. Your space reads young and joy filled. Consider something fun like a mini star and cross, or an ogee drop.

That tile is also sold as SOHO Studio Myorka White. You can find several photos in the Kitchen Forum discussions. It looks lovely in many kitchens, but was too reflective in my kitchen that has a very large triple window. I also have polished Taj Mahal quartzite which also reflected the glare off the tile and it was too much shine for me. I went with a honed marble mosaic instead.

You don't have to rush your decision. Take your time and bring more samples home. I suggest you visit local independent tile stores that will carry tile lines not carried by big box stores.
