Desperately need artwork suggestions for wall above couch!

Hi! I am having the hardest time finding a piece of artwork for the wall above my couch.

I was thinking of a large black and white photo or abstract art but haven’t found anything so open to all ideas.

Please share any suggestions. Max budget 1,000.

Including a picture of rug, chair and coffee table too for colors in the room.

Stand back and take a photo of that entire sofa wall. It is very difficult to give advice when we can't see the entire wall.

Why are you considering black and white? All the neutrals in the room scream for color. Get the print and have it framed locally in plexiglass (lighter and safer to hang). Huge improvement, IMHO! Looks much more inviting. Now move the clock, and put the two watercolors somewhere stacked where folks can see them up close. If it were me, I'd put them to the left of the bay window (as you are looking at it). That way I could always see them when I came downstairs or was passing from the front door into the living room. You can always move them later and group them with other art you acquire. You could also place the art closer to eye level to the right of the bay window, then folks would see it as they were sitting on the couch and it would be illuminated by the lamp in the evenings. Oh, and sorry to be so nit picky, but I'd move the furniture just a wee bit closer together to make the living room more intimate. Again, just my .02, your home is lovely and I really dig the wood floor!! And the art! And the clock! And the wall color! Etc.! :)

great advice upthread I'll try to be short, probably repeating several people: -get rid of the white console next to the fireplace/look for smth else instead if you need it there for function -think of other window treatments. curtains? woven blinds? roman shades? any of these will look better. move your sectional a bit from the wall, both to allow room for window treatments and because furniture generally needs at least couple inches to breathe..that wil also make room seem larger -you already purchased the ottoman in the same color and style of the sofa..off white, right? well something different would be better, but it's okay..buy a throw, fold it and put there to break your lines a bit. tray is great too-both for function and beauty. you'll appreciate it when watching this TV -I liked reading how your wife gets her art:) okay..so if there's no real room for other suggestions(I'm also prejudiced against mass produced canvas art..maybe she can be talked into a print instead?..)..put that art there first. Make sure it fits-seems huge?.. Say you go for that a very similar art, you have there-a bit of white, black, brown, indigo blue, fiery yellow white and brown you already have in your room (btw like your furniture) pull your other colors (in pillows and throws and accessories) from that art -deep sophisticated blues, golds. can be metallic accessories (like vases or flower pots?), can be softest fur pillows can be velvet, can be knitted throw. everythhing you buy-make sure it's a different texture..leather is sleek you've got enough of it. Speaking from experience-I also have my fair share of leather:) then look for a big ticket items like curtains and a rug. (or simultaneously..just keep your general scheme in mind). you can decide to make them fairly neutral. repeat the color of the furniture, just different material of course. or go for one vivid deep color but make it a shag rag for example. Don't try to match pattern to art..art has a mind of its own. Look at the room as a whole..what does it ask for? and know yourself of course..say I love many rugs but I don't like to clean them lol. You know whether it's high traffic area, what your habits are, and whether you'll be sad for 5 min if the rug will have spots and then get over it, or will be sad for 5 days. when you buy a side table try, again, to introduce another texture, just different material in this case. maybe wood. maybe ceramics(garden stool?some of these look really modern). every new material you bring creates dimension. Dimension is something you look for when creating spaces. Why? well that what we've used to. Ouside always has it. Even when it's a desert or an ocean. It has depth. we need to recreate it with all sort of ways and means that are availiable to us.. Good luck! will be a cool room edited because of thousand typos..))

When you use one photo in two "chunks" I think it looks better to not do the mats. In fact I like them to be stretched canvas and go frameless. You might look and see if three chunks would work or do it as one large print? (Odd numbers are usually more apealing to the eye) and that would fit the size of your wall better. Someting like this:

If you change your mind about the art piece above the couch, or even if you need some other pieces to go with it where you hang it next, what about having some of your wedding pictures blown up and printed in black and white, esp some that show the bridge? It could make a really lovely combination. Some ideas - just so the pics are large and artful, framed similarly to the bridge - even if you have to reframe the bridge: Not wedding pics, but a nice arrangement: eta, I was thinking it would be best to use black and whites to complement the art, but this just popped up and if the colors in your photos go well with the print, maybe this could work:

You could put something of this style in pretty much any color palette and add a couple of cushions, I think it would look very nice. I would vote for bolder color choice, if that is something you like.

Your setup is a good canvas for any sort of wall décor that'll suit your taste. I'd add painting(s) with bright colors, plants and also change the rug (no offense, but it looks kinda outdated, at least judging by the photo). Also, consider using shelfs on the other wall, fill them up with books, family photos and various trinkets to further enrichen the space.

Your rug looks like a classic style to me. And it is a style that can work in any number of design setups, including yours. And I also like the layering.

If you don’t have any art that you love, leave the wall bare. The art does not have to match the room. Just get a piece or pieces that you love. There is no point in throwing something on the wall just to have something there. Are you really interested in spending 1,000 dollars on somebody else’s art choice ? Art is a very personal thing. It’s your space. Any number of types of art can work, including your idea of a black and white photograph or black and white artwork. Is there nothing that you would like to look at a picture of ? Do you have any interests ? Don’t choose art to impress others. Put something on the wall that has some significance to ’You’.

Please post a photo of the entire room showing other furniture, curtains, etc., and a close-up of your area rug as it has it casts a pinkish look on my computer screen.

Go shopping finad a piece you love and you are done. Art does not ever need to go with your decor unless you live in a hotel room. I would never help my clients to buty art it is a personal choice and IMO if you want black and white and you love that go with it.

Something quite large and sugest nature inspired/calm and add cushions to help pull in the colors.

I could also see a collage or floating shelves.

I would look for art you love. You could do one large piece or a group.

Alposters.com has a great selelction of prints. You can buy them framed or unframed. I got a print of a 1932 cover of Good Housekeeping for my kitchen which I love from them.

Here are some options for over the sofa. I would not select anything that requires glass. The reflection can be distracting.

Make sure you go big, like 60-75% the width of the couch.
