B daylilies 2022
Comments (26)Bass Gibson had an off year, as did many. There were some nice blooms, but a number of bad openings and shorter scapes; BG can be inconsistent, but was great the previous year. Brown's Ferry Peaches and Cream did nothing for me here. Oh, there were a few nice blooms, but just wouldn't establish and get beyond 10-inch scapes. Where in central Ohio are you located, Steve? I am generally wary of Brown's Ferry intros, after being burned a few times. I wonder if you can say more about Blackbird's Song, Nancy. How quickly established, bud count, etc. Boss Lady had a very good year. Big Bang Theory has big blooms. Bud count could be higher. Butter Cream always provides scenes for pics. Belle Cook, despite its shortness, can wow. Black Bird Sings (not to be confused with Blackbird's Song) could stand some shade. Here at Crintonic near noon. Bridge of Sighs can have a nice flower, but would rather be farther south. Blazing Saddles has the typical Hansen tall scape. If only it had a Hanson scape. Blushing Escapade--long blooming glowing color on taller scapes. Blessed Are the Meek. I decided to try this, though one person warned me it is not that vigorous. Broken Chains, one of Karol's better ones here. Butter Pecan in a clump that needs division. Scapes a bit shorter after those late spring freezes. Birthday Wishes. Scapes less consistent here the past year, though not as short as this picture looks. Blue Pink Beauty is in a part of the garden where it is difficult to photograph, but there is always something deserving of a picture. Bubble Gum Twist has yet to make it out of the pot because I don't like the scapes. In the twilight of life, spaces in the garden go to only the most promising. Blood Sweat and Tears --moderate increase Buddy's Wild and Wonderful - a pic from 2020, when it was nicer. Early, which I like. Bloom Where You're Planted --quite showy, though every bloom is not perfect. A great name....See MoreF daylilies 2022
Comments (24)Debra, I see your post with Facemaker. It's a beautiful flower--too bad the bud count is low. I also like Foolish Kisses, Four No Trump and Fighting Fire. We love Free Wheelin' here, but it's not a great grower in our climate. It doesn't increase much and doesn't have many buds, but it blooms every year. Here are some of our F's. We bought Fantasy and Dreams because it is registered as late. I am not sure I like it though. Feanorian Lamps is finally getting going after it was smashed when the pine tree fell and then subsequently moved. Flame of the West is a robust plant with good height to the scape. It's orange so it's popular here. We we thrilled to find Flamingo Carousel, but I'm not sure it's identified correctly. Fox Point is a great grower, but it's not very showy. The flower is on the small side. For some reason we lost our first Fruitful Discovery. We bought it again and this one is doing great. We have a nice seedling out of it crossed with Wolverine. That's all for me. Nancy...See MoreL daylilies 2022
Comments (18)I like that Little Showman and Laura Harwood as well as all of the lavender ones. But that Limelight and Lavender one is worth searching for to me. A local hybridizer was downsizing and moving so they were selling off their inventory by the clump. I managed to get 10 for myself and also donated a bunch to a local community garden. I also snagged some small pieces of those while I was dividing and planting them for the local garden. What else could I do with them as they fell off the large clumps as I was dividing? One man's trash . . . Here's my first bloom on Lady Neva after it skipped the first year. I could see replacing this with a better one, but until I do . . . and one I picked up for myself, Lavender Handle Bars (I actually lost the tag on this one and contacted the seller with a pic and location where I think it was. Although I don't remember the name, he said this was most likely it. If you think it might be something else, I'm all ears . . . hmm, that might be a good name for a new one, "I'm All Ears". Maybe for a poly spider.) Could probably replace this one with Limelight and Lavender (after several years of evaluation). Do people often replace their daylilies with better ones when they come along?...See MoreX, Y and Z daylilies 2022
Comments (15)Coming late to the party again. We just got back from the ADS region 2 Winter Symposium. We had a good time, especially after my job was done. I was the registrar for the event. I think that those of us who are hybridizers need to focus on names that start with X, Y, and Z so that we have more to post in this section. The X might be hard to come up with, but Debra has done her part with Zuzu's Treasure. Beautiful! I must admit none of my pictures are from 2021, but I wanted to post something. Yauhannah Lake performs very well for us. You're Fired is a great grower. Zombie Dust often is inconsistent in pattern, but it's a big flower that is a little diffferent from so many other patterns that seem to have a rather muddy lavender petal color. It was hybridized by a friend in Indianapolis. That's all for me. Nancy...See MoreBrad KY 6b
