Need help on installing a totally new dishwasher
Comments (36)I suspect the actual cabinet dimensions are incorrect - at least the way we're used to seeing them. Usually, cabinet measurements are exterior measurements; I think New Homeowner is measuring the interior of the cabinets. (All of this is probably new to New Homeowner, so cut him/her some slack as s/he learns about cabinets, appliances, and electrical circuits!) . Stated dimensions: 15 W X 20H X 22.5 D . 15 W......If you look at the picture accompanying the dimensions, New Homeowner is measuring the doors, not the cabinets. If they are standard framed, then the cabinet is probably actually either: 36" wide (15" + 15" + 3" center stile + 1.5" left face frame + 1.5" right face frame = 36") --or-- Two 18" wide cabinets (15" + 1.5" left face frame + 1.5" right face frame = 18") . 20 H......Again, that's the height of the doors, not the cabinet. . 22.5 D......I suspect that's the interior, not counting the back cabinet wall (if there is one) and the front face frame. If they are standard framed, then the cabinet is probably actually 24" deep. 22.5" + 0.75" back wall + 0.75" front frame = 24" [This is assuming it's a standard cabinet. If it turns out it's stick-built and uses the actual wall for the "back" of the cabinet, then it's probably 23.25" deep: 22.5" + 0.75" front frame = 23.25" This is also assuming 0.75" cabinet walls & face frames, not 0.5". That's what my parents' stick-built cabinets are - no back cabinet wall, just the actual wall, and only 23.25" total depth as opposed to 24" deep.] . Regarding the 32" height shown in the picture......it looks like it's not counting the toekick. Assuming a standard 4.5" toekick, the actual height of the cabinets is 32" + 4.5" = 36.5"...taller than today's standard of 34.5" - so there should be no problems with the DW fitting under the counter once the cabinets are removed....See MoreHelp! Dishwasher just died. Feature recommendations? Brand?
Comments (19)Thank you everyone for your comments! I have been researching and looking at them in stores and just an hour ago made a purchase and now will wait on delivery and installation next week. Here was my process: With comments and online review I had pretty much narrowed it down to Bosch or Miele, but also looked at KitchenAid to have more options. Miele- there was no one that sold it in town and only one store in the geographic area- it was 30 min away. They did not have prices on their website. I pretty much ruled this one out because online prices were hundreds more than the Bosch and KA and if it needed repairs reports of repairs were very high priced and hard to get service and or parts. Bosch- I thought that this was the one. Looked at models at Lowes and at Sears Hometown Appliance store. Was debating if I wanted the 500 series or pay $100 more to get the 800 series. Today, dragged my husband with me to shop and make a final decision. Went for the first time to a local Mom & Pop appliance store. Looking strictly at KA, since they do not carry Bosch. They had a good selection, the KA were very sturdy shelves, had the third rack, and were quiet. They could order it in white, with recessed handle rather than the bar. I brought our dishes and they all fit. Only downside is the third rack is not set up to hold silverware like the Bosch. They had a cheaper installation fee than Lowes and also do service in house, no need to call an 800 number and hope to get an actual human on the line. Left there and went to Lowes to double check the Bosch. Every rack on the 2 Boschs in the store were broken- one of them just broken since I had looked at them 2 days ago. That was problematic. Also, our dishes did not fit all the tines. And, the tines were tilted so our plates fit funny even in the spaces that they fit. Our cereal bowls did not work at all. We have Fiesta dinnerware for reference. We use the 9" buffet plate and the small bowl- not even the large/regular sized stuff. That decided us- KA it will be! We went back to the local store and couldn't be more happy to buy from them. They had excellent customer service. We are getting the recessed handle because in a galley kitchen I do not want to be catching my hip on the large, industrial style handle they have. Also, I like the controls on the front so that I can see when the machine is on. I am excited to have the option of heated dry if I want and also that I won't have to worry about the "stinky" smell that many Bosch reviews mentioned. No KA reviews mentioned any bad smells. I would have liked to have the silverware on the top third rack, but I am used to baskets so it won't be a big deal. Putting lids and other items on the top rack might even be more useful in the long run. I will let everyone know how it works once we get it in!...See MoreStove/dishwasher recommendation
Comments (7)I use my stove for general cooking and baking for my family of 5. I don’t need anything Extraordinary. I would like the option to have more than 4 burners and when we update our kitchen I plan to have a second oven somewhere. My current stove is 30”. Not sure if I should go bigger or not. I do not need a wolf or anything too expensive but if I am going to replace the stove before our kitchen upgrade I want to do it right. Ideally I would like to keep it under $2,500 if that is possible?...See MoreBest dishwasher 2018 / are Viking dishwashers any good?
Comments (12)very helpful info here. I was excited to see the Whirlpool best buy, but that is a pretty loud one, over 50 decibels, and has a plastic interior. There are a few Whilrpools that have stainless and are 47 decibels which look quite promising to me. Hoping this links to 3 which look REALLY good. Interesting because they are so similar in features, yet the weight on the first one is much less (not sure if it makes any difference but it's noteworthy)....See Morekculbers
